When the 927? steel frame m-39s were made available to the dists., were they aware that they were even made and could be ordered? Or did they just receive them whether they wanted them or not?

I always thought the steel framed (39 was called the model 44.

Sir, the M-44 was a single action only m-39. Did not take off like the 39 and was dropped early on. Not many of them made.
It was called the M39 auto (steel). The steel frame is easily identified as having the short tang vs. the long tang found on the aluminum frames.
