After 25 years …no Internal Lock!

This opens-up a whole new world of purchase possibilities. I hope the "no lock" catalog expands greatly.

Unless people buy them, don't get too excited. This is NOT the first time S&W has offered guns without the lock.

It's all well and good BUT if they don't build them with any quality BETTER than the current offerings it's too little too late - IMO.
Colt has stirred the coals but I'm not sure the 'mothership' is capable at this point of picking up the pieces. Just my $0.02!😊

I sincerely hope you are incorrect but we shall see. Also, the timing was poor given the 5th Edition of Supica & Nahas' great book.

I've reached an age where I've slowed down (stopped actually) buying new guns and concentrate on playing with the older stuff I already have. OTOH, you young bucks (and does) now have the opportunity to experience newly made guns with classic features. I just hope the quality comes with it and that both the Masterpeice series and stainless guns will return soon. For all of you who have been fussing about what had happened to S&W, I can only encourage you to support these newest efforts.

All of those who have been bellyaching about the IL for the last 25 years: Cough up your money or you're a {deleted}.

I am one who has not bought a S&W revolver with the lock.
I have accumulated over 40 s&W revolvers over the last 40 years,,and not one has the lock .
For the last 20+ years all my S&W purchases has been used without the lock.

But while the lock is the biggest reason that stopped me from buying S&W .
The other reason is the MIM parts and the two piece barrel.

( IF) I could replace the MIM parts with with forged steel,,,I would be standing in line today to get a model 21 and a model 22.

Got the money burning a hole in my pocket if S&W happens to be scrolling through these comments!

Well.......

It's a move in the right direction, but from what I see the contoured area of the frame surrounding the hammer of the K frame (and J frames) is still ugly, this was done when the lock was implemented. To do it right in returning to the original design they should get back to the original frame design.

Just one person's opinion but the change is in the right direction.

Bahhhh Humbugggg :(

Finally a glimmer of hope that it will be completely deleted but the part I dont understand is the huge upcharge for a gun that costs them less to make, not surprised since the majority of comments are anti lock.
Ok, so you want it? Now fork up the money.
I looked at the 3 iL deleted new models on the SW website,
The retro 10 square butt , blocky ill fit magnas no medallions, retro mushroom ejector rod tip, half penny fs for $979.
Model 19 round butt only? (weird) with iL deleted smooth tangs, ill fitting cheap fake checkering laminate diamond grips $1099.
Model 36, half penny fs, iL deleted, diamond magna laminate copies $849.
Meh.

On a side not I assumed the change in frame shape was to accommodate the internal firing pin , then again the K22 has always had an internal firing pin.

There's the potential of a downside here...the reason Colt has received criticism for the single-action pull in their new line of revolvers was due to the CA drop-test. S&W avoided that due to the internal lock and the instruction manual stating to leave the gun locked until ready to shoot...so that's how CA drop testers tested it...hammer back with the lock enabled.

There's at least the possibility that should the new revolvers require testing by CA...they may end up modifying the single-action pull much as Colt did. Let's hope not.

I'm real interested in the new Model 10. I wonder if they are still two piece barrels given they have gone with a more traditional profile. Looks like one piece in the vid.

"Pencil Barrel" and "Hump" front sight irritated me. But then I'm a bit of a curmudgeon about these things....

Unfortunately it misses the mark for me. The no-IL models I REALLY want are mostly those "special" ones introduced in the 80s and 90s where the pre-IL examples are rare. I can get a pinned barrel Model 10 for $400 and in excellent shape almost anywhere, and a P&R Model 19 for $700 or so. But I can't get a pre-IL Mountain Gun, or 627, or 686+, or many others for a good price, or sometimes at all.
