My 28-2

I traded into this ole M28 today. She's got a few scars but I've seen worse. It's a 28-2 N151XXX serial number so '73 timeframe. I plan to remove the paint on the sights and I think I have a set of N frame targets that will work for it. How do you like it?

N151xxx looks like 1973 per 5th ed. SCSW. I like the look of the grips that are on there, "correct" or not.

Hey you are right. Maybe I should learn to read ! Older is better IMO. The grips don't look bad and are Altamont mfg. Here it is with some targets I had in the stash.

I think my M28-2 was the first new Smith that I bought in 1978. I still have it in the box with all the papers, even the receipt for $177. Great gun!

I think I will keep the targets on it, but those dark Altamonts compliment the finish on the M28. Maybe I need two!!

At least two! That's a real nice 28, and the target stocks look great on it. Period correct from the looks of them as well.

You acquired a nice 28-2, and there's nothing wrong with a little wear and a few scars! I've got a few HPs, and although magnas are the stocks of choice for HPs and Model 28s, I like those smooth stocks on yours. I put a set of Jim Badger's combat stocks on one of my 28-2s. Shoot it and enjoy it!

Not far off. 1970 C10's had 15x5-1/2 wheels as standard. Today those would look like roller skate wheels on a current C1500.

I think it looks fabulous. I'm also a fan of magna stocks on a M28. They fit my hand better and I didn't notice too much discomfort this past weekend at the range running average magnum loads (158 JHP's ~ 1300 fps) through mine. My 6" is just a little after yours in the 1973 range, N189xxx.

I like Magnas on all my revolvers and throw a grip adapter in there as well.

I modified my Model 28-2 a little to bring it closer to ideal.

When I go to work for a company, they have to stock 2x leather gloves for me. I am currently running the tool room for a company in Texas where everything is bigger. LOL I pass out the gloves, mostly mediums, a few smalls and larges, only a couple of the guys wear extra large. Only my brother and I wear the 2x gloves. They had to reorder every sized glove right after the job kicked off, except for 2X which they have lots of left over from previous jobs. I can not force a pair of XLs on unless I get them wet and stretch them. It is over 1 3/4" thick from the back of my hand to the palm and my trigger finger has a circumference of almost 4" at the base and if I press the pad on a tape it is over 1" wide

Magnas are lost in my hands
