OK, so I inspected the revolver and it is in time and locks up tight and no end shake. As someone mentioned the camera made it look worse than it did in person. So I was satisfied with it and here it is with some target stocks. The magnas are period correct but not numbered to this gun. To those who may have one of these from the same period what target grips should it have on it. Diamond with no speed loader relief cut? Oh this is my oldest revolver , I have a '59 Colt OMM too but this one is from '54 ish. (K224913) It has the lazy ampersand on the barrel and frame and has target hammer and trigger. Thanks.

Now, go shoot it and come back and tell us if you got a smile on your face. A K frame 22, 38 0r 357 Magnum just feel right.A fella could do a lot worse.

Congrats. I am sure you will enjoy it. I would bet a lot that if you went 10000 rounds each of target WC and standard velocity SWC, you be able to get a lot of performance and enjoyment and the finish would be mostly irrelevant.
I'll admit I don't have much use for a .38, preferring the flexibility of being able to use .357 ammo too, yet I have a K38 that will do most of what I need. Remember that when LAPD was allowed to be the police, they did a LOT of good work with 6" K38s and M68.

Think you did very well. If you decide you can't live w/it the way it looks but it shoots good you could always have it "Fitz'd"& carry it.(waiting for the wailing&teeth knashing to begin)

I will be OK with the condition. It actually looks much better in person than in the initial photos I was given. A little ren wax and it's good to go.
I'm a little late to the discussion, but I think you made a wise purchase. I have always been of the belief that you can never have enough K38s!
I bought my first K38 (14-3, 3T) around '82 for about $225. Then, about 30 years ago, I had an opportunity to purchase a 14-1 4 screw for just shy of $300. It had the standard service stocks, trigger, and hammer. The thing to keep in mind, it's a revolver that isn't being made anymore, and when taken care of and fed what it likes to eat, it's always worth the price if you can live with the outward appearance.

Probably not now. The revolver born in '54. A woman that age became eligible in 1972, if she was blessed cosmetically and adequately devoid of morals. By now, it is a safe bet that the K38 at issue has aged better.

Another update on the K38! The seller just text me and asked what the serial number was for the K38, turns out he has the box for it. I confirmed the serial number is the same as the number on the bottom of the box. I never asked about the box on this and surely didn't expect that he had one for it. Looks to be in good shape too!

Question for the experts. I noticed the date of April 15 1955 on the inside of the box. Would that be the ship date or what would that be?
That's the date the Statement of Liability went into effect. It was stamped inside the lids for several years.

Sweet! Though I don't believe the tools are original that box definitely adds value to the gun as a "package".
