Help Me Choose a Suppressed .22 Handgun

They don't reduce the sound as much as you might think. I have a .22 Suppressor from Silencer Central. With regular velocity ammunition there's still a notable crack. CCI Quiet IS quiet, but won't operate a semi automatic handgun or rifle. CCI Suppressor ammunition is pretty quiet and will operate in semi automatics. I shoot it in both Sig P322's and Taurus TX22's. But really I don't need it. I live in the woods and hike in the woods. No one cares about me shooting a .22. Your situation may be different of course.

Terry, I don't need a suppressor — just looking to have fun. I think I'll probably shoot it pretty much exclusively at my gun club range.

As I think someone mentioned above, with a ~ 3" bbl, even HV ammo doesn't develop enough speed to break the sound barrier, and is hence pretty quiet when suppressed.

Onomea, I haven't pulled the trigger on buying a can yet, but I did buy the host. I chose the MKIV. I have other guns to use it on, but it will be mostly at home on that one and my RPR. It will be just for fun at the range, too. I chose the Ruger because I had a MKII and miss it. The barrel was pre-threaded and if I decide I want to, there are tons of parts available to upgrade it. Also, it was easy to mount a red dot on it. My eyes ain't what they used to be and they used to be ****. Have fun with whatever you choose!

The Rugers have a history of movie theater quiet, according to my Dad's Detective buddies, when I was a young teenager.
Not quiet, like in the movies, but quiet enough to be used in a movie theater.
They described the sound, as I never got to try one.
IIRC, the diameter of the can, was about 2.5"+.

The MKIV Target, is what we have, trigger is fine for plinking,
and gets better with use.
Put the 2X back on and will see how accurate it really is, later this week, at 25, 50 and 100 yards.
Then maybe a new trigger.

My Air America buddy bought two of the stainless Hunters.

Steel is real. :D

You might consider the S&W model 422, 622, 2206. Series. An adapter from EWK arms make it ready for a suppressor. Usually find in gun shows for around $400. The barrel is low so even a 1-1/2” suppressor allows the use of factory sights.

CCI Standard Velocity will be subsonic out of most pistols, and operates all of my semi-autos reliably. SV is no louder than any 'suppressor specific' .22LR I've tried through my guns/suppressors.

To start with I would want to make sure pistol was one of practical accuracy before I would think about suppressors. If pistol isn’t accurate then it is completely a “fun” thing. Some shooters happy with the faux suppressors.
They look tactical. When I was younger thought a suppressor would be just the ticket for sneaking into prime squirrel patches that were posted. Now not needing one.

I appreciate the pix, Mike. A very nice set up.

Well, after a bunch of lookin' around, I have pulled the trigger: Host is a Ruger MK IV 22/45 Tactical. Can is a Bowers Paradigm. Dot is a Holosun 570c green dot.

Looking forward for it all to clear.

I appreciate everyone's comments and pix.

Cheap and silent 2206

To elaborate on my suppressed .22 Walthers. I have one suppressor, a Gemtech, that fits all three. I got it because I could. They're fun but, to me, anyway, of no practical value. Actually, I haven't affixed it to a pistol in quite some time - years actually. But I enjoy knowing that I can do it anytime I feel like it.

A suppressed hunting rifle is far more practical but, besides the limited hunting I've done lately, none of my rifles have threaded barrels. Maybe someday......

So far, for a host, I am thinking Ruger MKIV, Sig P322, or Walther P22.

I'm not personally familiar with a Sig P322, but I have Ruger MKII's, MKIII's, and a MKIV that I shoot suppressed. I prefer the MKII and MKIII over the MKIV, but that doesn't mean it's a bad gun, I just like the II and III better.

I also have a Walther P22 and a Ruger SR22 and they are very similar in size and operation, but by far the Ruger is significantly less ammo finicky than the Walther both suppressed and not suppressed. In fact, the Ruger has impressed me with how reliable it is overall. The P22 not so much.

How do you guys feel about integrally suppressed bbls on Ruger MKIVs? Pros and cons?

Any other integrally suppressed rimfire handguns?

If I were going down the rabbit hole...integrally is what I'd do.

Probably a Ruger. something like this: RMK Integral .22lr for the Ruger MKIV Target - Innovative Arms Silencers.

That's very cool, 44wheelman. The video on the site says you send them your MKIV upper but under "shopping" they're selling the whole pistol for ~$1500.

I read somewhere that integrally suppressed is the quietest approach.
