Not too far from my house, an odd holdup occurred this afternoon. Some guy went into a beauty salon and pulled a gun on the patrons and was demanding everyone’s money. Apparently one of them was the husband of a customer. He put up some resistance, and the robber pistol whipped him. But the husband did manage to pull out his own gun and put two bullets into the robber. Last report was that the robber was in the hospital and was not expected to live. What kind of a robber sticks up a beauty salon? I suppose he expected no resistance.

No matter what others may think I still love a (potential/probable) happy ending to these stories. One less "goblin" that LE will have to deal with in the future and no on-going expense to the taxpayers!:D:D:D

News story this morning is a little different from last night’s TV news account. The business was described as a barber shop rather than a beauty salon. And the robber died. No arrests made, shooting considered as an act of self defense. Story said the robber (unidentified) was shot “numerous times.”

Darn...if it was a beauty parlor I was going to say the thug got a Permanent...now I got nuttin.

Unfortunately, places like nail salons, beauty, parlors, and barbershops are ripe for this sort of criminality. My wife will regularly visit a local nail salon, which is usually pretty packed with women and some men getting manicures, pedicures, and other treatments. Unfortunately, a few things are apparent: the first one is everyone is pretty much in Condition White (meaning totally relaxed like when you’re on your Lazy Boy lounger.) Secondly, there’s usually a lot of cash on hand in pocketbooks and the register. And, most of the patrons and employees are not the threatening sort of people.
Whenever I go with my wife or just drop her off, it’s always in the back of my head that this place may be targeted for those reasons…

Could be that the barber shop may have been unisex, did both women’s and men’s hair. The news story was not specific on that point. My now deceased MIL always wore her hair very short and had it cut at a men’s barber shop. I can see how such a business could be an inviting target for a robber.

It shouldn't be offensive. It's a historical fact. Barbers were originally the ones that did circumcisions.
And other surgical procedures during the Middle Ages. The red and white striped barber poles represented blood and bandages. That sort of work was considered to be beneath the dignity of a physician. In the US, a blue stripe was added to the barber pole for patriotic reasons.

Back in my cop days, I worked a robbery at a beauty salon. The robber got several hundred dollars, total, from about a half dozen patrons plus the stylists.
