The George Lawrence Leather Company

George Lawrence

This is an old 150L 506 Lawrence holster that I suspect I will not part with anytime soon. Why do I like it?

1. It fits both my Colt and Ruger single actions perfectly.
2. Classic double loop, one piece construction, hammer loop.
3. The laced edge - what Heiser called a "hand thong wrap stitched edge".
4. No metal snaps or rivets - that means no pesky verdigris to clean off every year or two.

Hi Lee,
a plethora of good reasons!

I saw the Lawrence holster you listed recently on another website..., it looks really interesting because at first glance it appears to be made of ostrich leather, a very exotic item...
But from what little I can gather from the photos posted, unless I'm mistaken it was made of the more common pigskin.;)

A few more.
As this thread shows, Lawrence was a prolific maker, there are great examples out there.

Regards,

John, did Lawrence sell the knife sheaths individually, or did the knife come with it? What kind of knife is it? Looks kinda Buck like.

Hi Lee,

From what little I understand from the photos posted unless it has been made in more common pigskin.

Lee, what is the story on this holster?
Larry

Larry, Lawrence sold the sheaths separately, that’s a Buck model 119 Special model in it.
Lee, the pigskin holsters are few and far between, they were only offered for a few years. They first appeared in catalog 110 as Special Service Equipment as shown below. My number 110 has a 4/25/1969 dated price list. Same page was in catalog 114 dated 8/1/72. Number 117 (11/1/73) had 2 pages labeled Special Service Equipment but pigskin was no longer an option. I have a couple holsters, I’ll dig them out and photograph them. The pigskin option was expensive-$4.95 in 1970.

Regards,

When did Lawrence close?
They operated as the George Lawrence Co. up into the 1980’s, Gould and Goodrich bought the company when Bill Lawrence retired in 1989 or 90. They didn’t last much longer, holsters were stamped Lawrence instead of George Lawrence .
I have a retail price list dated August 1990 from the Lawrence Co.

Regards,
Here I go learning some new again. I never knew there was such a thing as Lawrence pigskin covered holsters. Thanks for the information John, and the pictures, Lee and Marcello. Gives me something to keep an eye out for.👍😀

Regards,

Turnerriver I sent you a completed auction listing for a never before seen Berns-Martin price list for 1960, no response? I contacted the seller and he said he had never heard of B-M! I said they were James Bond's maker, introduced in the book Dr. No. Oh, he said, I only know the films. Yet B-M for Bond was a major scene in the film!

Here is another of my Lawrence holsters. It is a Lawrence Challenger Model 570 for a Colt .25 caliber. I can’t remember if it’s made for the Baby Browning or the 1908 Vest Pocket sized gun. IIRC, Challenger is the more budget friendly holsters from Lawrence. I have always liked the small holsters. I kinda find it strange carrying a small gun on your hip.

a real workhorse: the George Lawrence 1-CB for revolvers and automatics.

Each maker has served its customers with at least one workhorse.
Putting at least one essential, strong rugged and reliable in the catalog.
For me this holster represents George Lawrence at its best, offering a product you can always count on.

Enne-frame, did you receive the basketweave Heiser set I sent to you some time ago?
Hi Red yes I received it, I wrote 3 or 4 emails to thank you after receiving it, but the postmaster@...
reported "Undeliverable: Holster rig".

I don't know why and I don't understand the meaning, but it said this:

flpd601.prodigy.net returned this error:
flpd601 DNSBL:RBL 521< 40.92.89.29 >_is_blocked.For assistance forward this error to [<[email protected]>]

The belt is fantastic, unfortunately the holster was shortened but for me the rig is absolutely the best gift I have ever received.
Thanks
Thanks
Thanks
