Model 29 no dash nickel 6.5” good deal? More pics added

Ok guys I bought it. Here are pictures of all internal marking I could find.
As Doc said, no N stamp on cylinder face, but I did find one under the extractor. Thank you for that, Bill

And I thought that I "stole" mine!!!!

I would have driven to Maryland, and paid to have it shipped here to Virginia, AND laughed and cried all the way home!!

What a heck of a deal at todays market. Shop owner must have been asleep at the wheel.

The only question I have is about the wooden presentation case. It sure looks old and real of course and appears to have the Styrofoam base flocked inserts. I've owned several guns with wooden presentation cases but mine usually had the blown plastic, spray flocked inserts (usually deteriorated). I also have a copy of Bill Cross & Roy Jinks excellent book " The Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum" which I have about worn thin.

Some questions:

Did S&W even have wooden cases in 1961? The OP's gun is pointing to the right, is this correct for a 1961 gun? I have been of the understanding that only some 1978 to 1980 guns with wooden presentation cases had the guns pointing right. When was the Styrofoam inserts in play at S&W? When was it replaced by the blow molded plastic?

The guns I have lettered and/or ship date confirmed by Roy are pictured below with their cases.

Again.........the OP really lucked into that one. I'm sure I am not alone in wishing I had seen it first.:D

Pics: Model 29-2 Lettered shipped Dec.31,1980,gun points right;
Model 27-2 Lettered shipped May 8, 1980, gun points right; Model 29-2 with intact flocking, s/n is 1977, but Roy confirmed shipped in May 1979, gun points left

Yes they did- it is referred to as a "clamshell case" and they ended in 1968 I believe. Everything about his case is correct. It is the correct case for his gun.
Very valuable cases- mint bring up to 800 on eBay- other lesser condition I see bring 500 +/-.
Forum Member JCELECT ( Joe Cebull) can bring them back to as good as new as it gets. I mentioned all this in my previous post.
Here is one I used to own, (1961) that a forum member bought for just a TAD more than this one.:)

That nickel plated 29-2 looks righteous to me, I think you did great!

EDIT: It has been pointed out that I said it was a nice 29-2 and it is not a 29-2, but a Model 29 (no dash). I still stand by what I said, it looks righteous and I think it was a great acquisition.

Well guys, I was looking through my newly acquired 5th edition SCSW and see this table and comments regarding the no dash 29.
ANIB - 4000
Exc - 2500
VG - 1750
Good - 1200
Fair - 700
Are those values true? If so it appears you guys were right this indeed was a good deal.
50% premium for nickel? I've seen a ton of later dash nickel 29s. Were there not that many no dash nickel guns?

Nickel usually made-up 10-15 percent of the total production so 44 Magnums finished in nickel have always been worth a premium. 44 Magnums with a 5-screw frame and nickel finish are very seldom seen and worth a very significant premium when offered for sale. Click on the photo below for a better look :).

Absolutely Mike! I very much appreciate all the help that was given to me. You guys are awesome !

Don't snooze on that one..
A 4 screw with case still wearing it's cokes..
It will be gone in a flash.[/QUOTE

Where is the 4th screw?
Those guns came with Goncalo Alves target grips.......Note Cokes.....Cokes had long been discontinued when that gun was made.

Would it be under the grip?
My 7 day waiting period is up tomorrow so I can finally pick it up and bring it home.
