I just picked up this 3-1/2" Magnum. It was a six inch that was returned to S&W for rebarreling. It has some unique markings. I would like to publicly thank member lestert357 for the generous gift of these grips on the gun! I can't thank him enough, They look and fit great!

I am having trouble with Imgur.

Thank you so much!!! I either forgot or never knew you could download direct here.

So, I see the date of 7 58. What are the other symbols?

The "7 58" indicates that it went back to the factory in July 1958 (where it probably got the barrel swap). However, I don't recall seeing any markings like the "TBRSRG" stamped on the lower left corner. One or two Letters/Numbers stamped as inspector marks - yes, but not the "alphabet soup" you have there. Very interesting and unique. Hopefully, Doc44 or someone else will chime in with some insight.

I'm a big fan of the 3-1/2" bbl. versions of the .357 Magnums and Model 27-2s, and I do own a couple. Yours appears to be a very nice example, congratulations! Those deep stamp markings on the frame are interesting...perhaps indicating that the revolver was to have a new pinned barrel with rib and a red ramp front sight. The "T" is a mystery. You didn't mention the s/n or what year your .357 Magnum was manufactured, but the rework was definitely performed in July 1958. I wonder how long the owner had the revolver before he decided to change to a shorter barrel? Enjoy!

Serial is S 827xx I was told it was a 1951 I forget what year it was rebarreled if not 1958. I should have that info somewhere I think??? I forgot to post here and earlier that both barrels bear the same Serial Number as the Butt and elsewhere in the same font on each barrel. The 3-1/2" replacement barrel also has two O marks near the frame junction.
ETA: I am going to get a letter for this. Should I opt for the Deep Dive information? What exactly is the Deep Dive stuff?
