NEW 629 and 686 NO LOCK MOUNTAIN GUNS ANNOUNCED!

The 686 MG is now finally showing up on Gunbroker.

I just got off the phone with Lipsey's, and the guns they got in have already been pre-sold, so we won't be seeing them on GB for a while, I'd guess. There is only one currently listed, and it is only as a package deal with a 629 as well. The Lipsey's rep said that it is an "open contract", meaning they are supposedly in a constant state of production, not being done in batches, but she also said that they first started being delivered about a month ago, which I have an exceptionally hard time believing, and she confirmed she meant the 686, not the 629...

I love it, but we who have 686-5s and earlier be like

Great info, thanks.

While it's great news that they decided to get rid of the Internal Locks (guess the move had plenty to to with that), I hope they also figure out how to manufacture guns that are of good quality and step up their QC inspections. If not, it won't matter what they make.

Checked out a 629 Mountain Gun at my LGS what I really liked were the superb grips. What I didn't like was that the timing was perfect on 5 chambers and a little late on 1. Hopefully the next one they receive will have perfect timing on all 6.IMG_5253.jpeg

Well, I certainly don't like to reward businesses for selling at above MSRP, but that's exactly what I just did. I found a 686MG on GB for $100 over MSRP (I refuse to do auctions) and I bought it, since all the currently released ones have either been spoken for or are being auctioned. Crossing my fingers it will be a good copy.

Like to hear how you like it once in hand.

I got to handle both the 629 and 686 MGs last weekend. The grips on the 686 felt great, just right for my hand. But the N frame was huge, which is fine because I'm not going to get the .44.

That's good to hear. I genuinely hate massive revolver grips, and the 629's looked like they would be. When I saw the video last night of Bryan at AFR holding his new 686MG, it looked much better proportioned to his hand. My new Model 10 (currently in waiting period) has nice, small grips, which I love. I know even the 686MG grips will be larger than the Model 10, but as long as they aren't unwieldy, that's fine. Like you, the 44 didn't interest me.

Here's the 686MB with the Bear Hug Grips.

N frame grips don't have to be massive, especially for us people with small hands.

Both of these are N frames (27s), the 5" has a set of Thai grips from ebay. It's hand filling but not huge. The 3 1/2" has a set of Spegel boot grips that actually came with the 5". I just thought the boots look better on the shorter gun.

And here’s the 629 again :)

Sad part is I haven’t had time to shoot either yet…
Congrats! I very much like the grain and darker color on your 686 grips. That's by far the darkest shade I've seen any of these TGW grips, and I love it. I wish mine were like that.

I’d been hoping to replace my 686 that has the lock. Now it looks like the price just dropped. Guess I’ll research how to eliminate instead. I’ve seen images with the hole filled that didn’t look too terrible and at least didn’t look like a fiddleback hidy-hole.

Congratulations on the 2025 M.G. 357Rem Mag.

Hopefully my Lipsey’s new 2025 S&W Mdl
686 Plus Mountain Gun 357Rem Mag 7 shot.
MFG MDL #: 14040 UPC: 022188900743
will arrive soon. I was number two on the list
and one has arrived at my favorite Local
Gun Store already.

I’m also hoping that it will past my S&W revolver
inspection.

I agree on the color. It was the first detail I noticed. The K/L frame TGW grips are noticeably thinner than the N frame. They feel similar to Ahrends, but with more palm swell.
