Trends You Simply Can't Stand...Feel Free To Vent Here

"Picked-up" instead of bought or purchased. "Awe picked-up maw new pew-pew." Did you buy it, or just pick it up?

Same with "pulled the trigger on a new pew pew." Did Billybob buy it, or just pull the trigger? Big difference.

“Revolver”. The cylinder rotates.

NASA says… "Rotation" refers to an object's spinning motion about its own axis. "Revolution" refers the object's orbital motion around another object

My favorite is the guy who INSISTED that the grains mentioned on the side of the ammo box was for how many grains of powder was inside the casing.

After explaining to him it was a measurement of the weight of the bullet, not powder charge, he just wouldn’t listen and more or less called me a fool in a very smug manner.

He was absolutely certain the 180 grain box of .30-06 would be much higher velocity than the 150 grain box right next to.
That one is funny. Like the guy on Bud's gun shop who complained about the 22 mag pistol. He explained that 22 mag was like a 357 magnum compared to a 38 special and the shorter round had the same bullet, he measured them, and therefore any quality 22 mag should accept 22 lr.

He even did scientific testing. He tried a half dozen different brands, of 22 lr, they all split cases. There for the gun was defective. Because of what he read on the box.

Thank you.
The stupidest thing ever has to be, far and away, the large loop on lever guns. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!
And don’t even try the excuse that the lever has to be mutilated for gloves. If your gloves are that big you, how are you going to shoot?
Thank you. I collect 2 things. Smith and Wesson wheel guns and lever actions, and have a pile of each.

I like the little 16.5 inch Rossi stainless 357 as much as any for its speed, the Henry Golden Boys are for looks, the Marlins provide 1.25 inch accuracy and the stainless Guide Guns goes to the woods now and again. But while hunting in bitter cold for more than half a century, I never had a day that gloves would not go into a lever. That said, I have killed over 100 deer, I slip the glove off so I can feel the trigger when I shoot, I though everybody did.

So, lately I read about the new SW lever guns and how the large lever is a must, a fellow must be stupid not to see the utility of the large lever. So, they become a fad and now everyone with an old style lever is stupid. OK, what next? Oh yes. YOU MUST have a red dot on your levers, otherwise, you are just stupid. Maybe so.

Define "valid".
"You carry a revolver for self defense, you're stupid"
Is that "valid"? It's certainly an opinion.
If you don't know the meaning of valid, you shouldn't be making the posts you make. You're revolver analogy doesn't work. It certainly is an opinion, as you say, but not valid.

No worries. Heck, I can't even get beyond "wheelgun"! I hate that term....
Here's one that might make your head explode (but then, maybe not.) "Wheelguns" are NOT revolvers. The cylinder in a handgun does NOT REVOLVE. It ROTATES. The earth REVOLVES around the sun, and the earth ROTATES on its axis. I've pointed this out for years, but it would sound kinda awkward to call one's K-frame S&W a "Rotator."

I am sick of the gun industry’s covert war on handloading.

If stores can block their aisles with pallets full of 9mm and 5.56 ammo for the tacticool cosplay blasters, then clearly there is a manufacturing capacity to supply primers and powder.
During the pandemic, you couldn't find primers for love or money. Still, I managed quite well throughout . . . until my supply of small pistol ran low. I was still able to find small rifle primers somewhat plentiful, but for outrageous prices (which I did reluctantly pay -- but it meant I still got to shoot!). I discovered that you can substitute small rifle primers in 9mm, .38 and .357 Magnum rounds. Just don't expect reliable ignition if you're shooting a striker fired pistol, though.

Now everyone's fretting about an upcoming powder shortage, and retailers in my area have already jacked prices up to $55-$65 per pound (depending on the powder). All because China's cutting off our supply of nitrocellulose. When the hell did American farmers stop raising cotton, for God's sake, that we'd have to depend on the Chinese COMMUNISTS for gunpowder??? Talk about an obvious slip in strategic thinking!!!

In the meantime, I've decided to forego the local retailers if they're going to try screwing me. I'll just pay the HazMat charges, even if it means buying 10 or more pounds of powder at a time.

Lastly, I have to agree that the ammo manufacturers are trying to wage war against us handloaders. There was no excuse for allowing the inventory of primers to completely evaporate the way it did during the pandemic.

You covered important points the gadgeteers, aspiring gunfighters, and concealed carry hobbyists should give serious thought to. Very good post.
I've lost all faith that adding an optic to a handgun is necessary at all. I added a Holosun green dot sight to my S&W Equalizer, and I've never been able to improve my shooting accuracy with it since. If anything, the optical sight has made me worse! It amplifies my "coffee jitters" and the way the dot will dance around all over the target. And I don't have to have any jitters.

The best improvement I made was to get an additional slide/barrel assembly and install a set of Hi-Viz Light Tunnel tritium sights. They amplify daylight and glow in the dark, so the sights are "lit up" in nearly any shooting situation.

Okay, so don't beat me over this but it's folks that want to refer to every firearm as a "weapon". I see this a lot with former or current military folks with no other firearms experience outside the service. Geez guys, it's a rifle, pistol, shotgun or a revolver. It only becomes a "weapon" when it's used on somebody. A baseball bat is a baseball bat until you bonk somebody over the head with it. Do you refer every kitchen knife in the house as a weapon?? I was qualified in several different court systems as a firearms "expert". Terminology/phraseology becomes important when we are speaking to a lay person, especially to a person that might be on the fence in regards to firearms. We need to be conscious of that. ;)

Yeah, I get it, but I also understand the futility of arguing the point. I've always had a similar issue with "iron sights." Steel, aluminum, plastic, and who knows what else goes into the construction, but iron? No, probably not in a long time. But I guarantee I'd come up on the losing side of that debate every time.

This has probably been covered, but a major peeve for me, is all these gomers that are compelled to lather up their Glock with every stupid friggin' option they could find on the interwebs, insisting they're never selling it .....until we see them posted on TheOutdoorsTrader ( for MONTHS!), and they're all completely mystified that they can't get their $1200 back out of it !!

I thought about what you said about "iron sights," and I get you, too. But on this one -- hear me out -- no disrespect of any kind is intended here -- but I imagine that term came about as a substitute for saying "open sights." It would make more sense -- and be more betterer than saying "iron sights."

And it just so happens that almost all the sights on my handguns are plastic these days, with little fiber optic tubes and/or tritium inserts. If you have any like that, just tell your dummy range companions that your gun has "nuclear" sights. After all, tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, and is a key component in making nukes go all mushroom-cloudy!

Oprah got ahold of the 9mm cartridge and now it's all anybody makes. Sure there are some cool guns in 9mm, but they'd be cooler in 40, 45, .357sig, 10mm, etc.

Edited to add:
People who go to an indoor range and complain about people's guns being loud. It can be annoying having someone with a 5" ar pistol dumping mags next to you. I get it, but if you go to an indoor range you know thats a possibility. I went to a range that rents full auto last week and one of the regular customers was getting mad that someone was shooting full auto. Moral is, don't go to a loud place and complain that it's loud. Thats like going to the racetrack and complaining that it smells like burning rubber and race fuel.
