Stocking up on Ammo.

Prices and supply are both pretty good right now and are subject to change at any time. Although I'm pretty well stocked up ...at the present prices I may add a little more.

Just back from an estate sale 30 miles away, got 270rds of 45LC FMJ, 5bxs 50rds fmj at 12 a box and a 20rd box jhp for 7 bucks. Picked up 300rds of 38spl 130gr fmj for 9 a box, 600rds 9mm ball 147gr fo 8.50 a box, 500rds cci lawman brass 45 fmj for 11 a box and 400rds of 390 fmj for 6 a box. Off topic but also snagged a Winston Churchill Toby jugs for 43bucks and a new coach purse for da wife for 175. Also nabbed an old esso gas globe for 95 but unfortunately I dropped it and broke it at home, that was all that cursing y'all heard earlier.

I giggled like an idiot at that for longer than should be allowed by law.

Que the reloaders ...
When the guy on the 6:00 news uttered the word "pandemic", I put in a massive order for powder and primers. That's why I still am loading a box of 50 handgun cartridges for $2.50. A month later (April 2020) the shelves were bare.

A year ago when prices started to come down I stocked in a lifetime supply.

Last time .22 RF bulk bricks were selling at $0.05/round I put in a lifetime supply there as well.

All my loading and usages are in my computer database. Looks like I'll need to stock up again when I hit age 93.

Ammo companies will not ship to NY its pretty sad. They do in fact run a background check on ammo purchases which to me is totally insane.
THAT was because of the Safe Act two point 0. We had advance notice, so we knew it was coming. No excuse for not stocking up then.

I was at a LGS recently to buy some Hoppes, and a customer was trying to buy some 9mm rounds. The clerk said his NICS did not come thru so he would either have to wait (didn't know how long), or come back tomorrow. He chose to wait, so he took off his jacket and sat down. Under his street jacket was a local Police Uniform, and he was carrying a Glock. I thanked him for his service.

Some things have gone too far.

Been concentrating on 10mm lately although I got in some 5.56x45 too. The 10mm I was starting from scratch as I just added the caliber to my collection and I must say I'm liking its performance so far. I don't like the problems with the MP 2.0 10mm I'm having, but I don't think they are caliber related.

Just another perspective; handloaded ammo is still ammo, made of components just like factory ammo.
I stay stocked up on "Dillon made" ammo...........Buy a little factory stuff here and there...........Everybody should keep plenty on hand.........APPARENTLY. No one remembers the last 3 ammo dry -ups in the last 10 years.

Oh yeah, I remember the ammo dry up and the hi cap mag dry up. Vowed then to keep enough of both on hand to arm the US Army, Russian Army and Nortg Korean Army combined. You wouldn't believe the hauls I get at local estate sales, yard sales and flea markets. Went into a Pirate shop before the pandemic, sort of a small one owner flea market indoors, guy had ammo and mags at such killer prices I bought his entire inventory of ammo and mags. I still have ammo I'm trading for ammo I use. Paid the guy then ran down the street to u-haul and rented a truck. Right price? You buy it whether you need it or not, if not, then trade it.

Tire shops
Many states now ban lead WWs. You have to be careful when you buy them because the zinc ones are not usable.

When the law took effect in NY, I stocked up before the ban took effect and the waste buckets at the tire shops got contaminated.
