Is it now time to stock up on ammo?

I just purchased enough shotgun target ammo to get me past the election and into spring. This looks like an especially good time to buy it.

I use Federal and they've been trying to sell the associated businesses of late. Doesn't look good for my situation.

Like others, I just order online. I don't buy ammo locally. The price is about the same and I can find what I want without depending on a local dealers stock. One stop shopping using a keyboard.

It's my personal opinion that if you are asking that question, you are already behind the curve. You should have already been stocked up. I vowed many years ago to never let a shortage catch me off guard again. I didn't get caught with my pants down, but I sure had to tighten the belt as far as practice goes to keep them from falling down. I now have enough to last the rest of my life in ammo and components.

My question is are people hoarding 22 so they have it for plinking? Harvesting food when society collapses or double tap head shots on Zombies? And if so, will a 22 terminate a Zombie? These are important questions

I bought a Glock 44 during the last shortage (usual EDC is a G19) to be able to continue shooting at the same rate I was before the shortage. It let me save my 9mm but continue training. So yes, I’ll continue to hoard .22 so if the shortage lasts and I run out, it’s not as big of deal as running out of 9mm.

My regular carry is a 442. I have enough. 38 for LEOSA qualifications and carry until I'm dead. At 75 that's not really far off. I have a 317 with the same grips for cheap practice.
But between the 317 practice and a smallbore bench addiction I need a lot of .22.

High end Eley is nice to have but I don't mind relying on CCI SV for all my shooting needs. It works pretty well in all my rifles putting out some very nice groups when the wind is calm and arthritic fingers don't spazz. I'll lay in two more cases by January and feel prepared.

I’ve wondered the same thing.

That said, I was powerfully annoyed circa 2008 when .22LR ammo vanished from the shelves. I’d recently bought my retirement home and set up backyard range, but my plans to renew my childhood plinking pastime were being waylaid by wannabe preppers with their hair on fire.

I resolved to never be placed in that situation again, and I proceeded to buy cheaply and stack deeply. I am now privileged to shoot what I want when I want, regardless of the crisis du jour.

Call me a hoarder, and you'd probably be right. My actions probably contribute to tightened supplies, but if I don't buy it somebody else will.
Ammo is more expensive but not scarce right now. The higher cost has much more to do with inflation than tight supply. Buy all you want, its not hurting anybody else.

I feel differently about those that camp out outside stores during a shortage, buy all the ammo they can as soon as it comes in and then try to sell it at inflated prices. But that is not what you are doing. At this point anyone can buy all the ammo they want at the going price.

Yes on plinking and harvesting food. Also saves on practicing instead of centerfire. Never saw a Zombie but a .22 head shot will kill a deer, hog or a 1500 pound cow. Larry
