Value of excellent condition Model 36

I have kept this 1977-78 Model 36 square butt in my safe for over a year. Original box and papers. Safe storage for a friend who didn’t want it in their house due to grandchildren. The family are not gun people. Husband bought new in 1977 and had kept in drawer for years. As you can see it is in pristine condition and shot very little. I have the SCSW 4th but was curious what current market value would be as I may make an offer. They haven’t asked about since they brought it to me for safe keeping.

Tom, over here, in my area that 36 would bring about 550 to 600. Overall appears in excellent condition, with faint turn line. Is there something on the left grip?

It has accoutrements. I'd first ask if he wants to sell it. Next, how much does he want. If he says $1,000, give it back. If he says $500, flip a coin. If he says $100(?), give him at least $300 because he is a friend. Joe

Nice square butt. Around here a $550-$600 gun. I’d offer $350 since they just want to get rid of it. $400 maybe.

Ken, reference to the left grip. Something white in the lines between checking. Not paint or anything like that. Maybe some dried wax. Haven’t cleaned the grips. Did clean and lube the revolver and put ren wax on it when they brought it over as it needed it before I stored it away. Thanks everyone for responses. I don’t have a J frame .38 and this would be a good one to add to my accumulation.

I bought my M36 when I was in college. I think I was a little too frugal back then, there was a square butt M36 next to it and I wish I’d bought it too (@ ~ $123, same as my round butt M36). Live and learn.

Sounds about right - maybe a little low because of the box.

Not wanting to CHEAT a friend.

Two price suggestions;
1) $100 less than an equivalent one at gun-broker.
Search in Completed Sales
2) At least $100 more than a local dealer offers.

Cleaned the grips this morning. Lightly cleaned with some Murphy Wood Soap and soft toothbrush. The white stuff in between the checking on one of the grips came off. Before and after.
