Road Trip and a Zoo

I carry the biggest gun i am comfortable carrying on trips that will take care of what ever problem i might encounter. Same as at any other time.

We flew to Florida last month to drive around and see my wife's family. I took my 19-5 nickel snubbie stoked w/ +P 125 gr JHPs (IWB cross draw) and my Glock 43X. Never carried the Glock, but did have it in the center console for the longer drives.

Is this zoo a particularly dangerous place?
Never a relevant question, except that if one perceives that a place is such that one HAS to be carrying, the first choice is to not go there unless one is duty bound to go there (LE). A pistol is what one carries because they have no specific reason to think they need to be armed.

“A pistol exists to get you to the rifle you should have been carrying when you realized you needed a gun.”

Sound like a ridiculous statement. Think about it. I believe one of the guys who runs a gunfighting school made the same comment or something very similar. If the make-believe Internet gunfighters are in one of their imagined frequent violent confrontations and are armed with only a handgun, how often is a rifle so close they can get to it? Rarely, if ever, would probably be an accurate assessment.

I’m just quoting one of my old NCOs lol. No idea where he heard it, but it makes sense to me…if you think you’re going to need a gun, bring a rifle and more rifles with attached friends

Not a criticism directed at you; many quote that "advice" but seem to never give any thought as to what it says. It makes no real sense.

In the context of the infantry, it does. A pistol is a purely defensive tool, a rifle is a weapon, and the real killing tool is the crew-served weapons the rifles mostly exist to protect and support.

We don't have infantry or crew-served guns in mind when the subject is civilian concealed carry and self defense.

And that is why I doubt a NCO told him that. I believe the quote originated from Jeff or Clint. If Clint is credited he heard it first from Jeff. Its all in the context of advanced civilian firearms training.
