S&W Sport II - assistance in mounting a light needed + Optic recommendations

The choice in red dot/scopes depends on the intended use-competition, hunting, HD, plinking. I fall in the HD-plinking category. I put a Sig Romeo5 Gen 1 and Magpul backup sights. The Romeo has a shake awake feature that allows instant on and inactivity timeout that greatly improves battery life. And I don't have turn on and then remember to turn off. If your useage is more serious, the your equipment needs to be higher performance to match ($$$$).

I would 2nd the suggestion of the Romeo 5 for all but going-to-war use. However, I have read of a number of counterfeit Romeo 5s. A google search can teach you how to spot them. I'm not sure why they would go to the trouble of counterfeiting a relatively inexpensive Romeo 5 vs. an Aimpoint or Ultradot, but I believe they do. Maybe it has to do with the ease of replicating tooling (just a guess).

"I'm not opposed to it, just need to know if the installation for that handled he posted is easy with my fixed iron front sight? "

The MagPul hand guards-if you buy the correct items-will fit right where the original handguards went. IIRC, MagPul includes instructions. There is a tool available to make pulling the delta ring back easier.

OK, optics - So I'll show you what I did with the same Bushmaster shown above. A Burris 2x7 scope, with a Burris Fastfire 2 red dot mounted on a picatinny railed Burris scope ring. Works great. And before anyone mentions how far I have the scope mounted to the rear, I am 6'3, long arms, and I always fully extend the stock. I don't like being cramped. :)

Nice setup.
I def dont want a scope on mine. Just a red dot would be sufficient for my intended uses.

Thank you, I may just go this route then. Easier to mount things on this handguard as well or so I've read so that would solve my problems and I'd be able to mount a light and hand stop without any issue, correct?

Yep! Since you're obviously a newbie, Patrick Sweeny does a lot of books on the AR. I'd suggest you pick up at least one, plus, if you can find it, a military manual on care and operation. Sweeny's Gunsmithing the AR is a good one for a lot of reasons, but there are others. Money well spent.

I don't believe there's another firearm design on the planet that has more male bovine excrement "information" about it than the AR has. Beware the MBE!

Oh, the screws that mount the MagPul rail sections are longer than necessary since they're made to fit just about everything. If you intend to fit multiple rail sections to a MagPul hand guards, trim off the excess length and put some nail polish or cold blue on the ends for rust protection. The screws on several rail sections (on the top piece) can hit the heat guard and keep the top section from going on. (I think it's obvious how I know this.)
