Kroger has a digital coupon this week for 18 grade A large eggs at $2.99.

Costco currently has 2 dozen large grade AA eggs (better than grade A) for $5.29.

I guess the bird flu flew the coup!

Fried eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, hard boiled eggs, egg salad and deviled eggs are inexpensive once again! :)

Several factors are involved including egg imports, less exportation, and no longer mandated killing of entire bird populations.

I just ate a couple with my lunch.

People flat out stopped buying them at the stupid prices. I think the old days where people will buy certain foods at almost any price are gone. The consumer has wised up.
Well over 100 million chickens were killed because of the bird flu this year. That drove egg prices us. We still bought eggs at over $4/dozen, but it really hurt low income people who rely on eggs for cheap protein.

While this was going on, I'm surprised Costco continued selling giant rotisserie chickens for $4.99. Kudos to them!

Eggs are the perfect food IMO. With it being just the two of us we bought them and ate them regardless of the price.

I remember eating eggs my grandmother made that we freshly pulled from the henhouse. She would fry a pound of bacon then crack the eggs into the iron skillet of hot grease sweeping it over them to create an over easy egg. Freshly toasted home made bread and home fries. Then off to pheasant hunt out back. Makes my arteries harden just thinking about it. Oh I forgot the amish made butter.

But did she keep the bacon Grease? Bet she did!

The Mrs. gets our eggs 10 doz. at a time from a small egg distributor on the other side of town. She buys what they call 2nds for $1.50 per doz. They call them 2nds because some are slightly miss shaped , over sized or a bit small . Some have hair lined cracks, we cook those first. Local grocers won’t accept them so it’s either sell them on the cheap or toss them. We have been buying them that way for years and so have the local Volunteer Fire depts. for their monthly pancake breakfast fund raisers. That’s how we found out about it .

I'm getting ready for my poached egg with turkey and cheese on a bagel!

Flipping grease on top of the egg is called "blindfolding". Over easy means you flip the egg over in the skillet for a few seconds before putting it on the plate, leaving the yolk runny. Over hard means you flip the egg over and cook it until the yolk is cooked solid.

Here is one for you. My youngest child has always been allergic to eggs. As a baby his lips would turn red. As a child he refused to eat eggs until one day my mother is frying eggs and he is just scarfing them down. I asked him why is he eating them, his answer they taste good. My mothers eggs where farm fresh cage free eggs. I don't mind paying a dollar more for cage free eggs. Always wondered what was in the caged chicken eggs he was allergic too?

While the price of eggs dropped considerably, bulk chicken thighs/legs are going up. Am sure there is no connection? Paid $1.25/lb for thighs this week.

Alas, the price of caviar, fish eggs, always remains high so the plight of most posters here has little bearing in the world of fine dining. Let us raise our full Champagne glasses to toast that world.

I have 3 dozen scheduled for delivery from the farm this week or early next... all this talk has just shifted my breakfast menu.. looks like 2 eggs fried in bacon drippings beats out bowl of cereal with peaches... may have the peach anyway..
Try home fries and scrambled eggs both cooked with bacon grease. If you already haven't.....bet you have though.
