My most recent Culinas are Gaboon ebony, pictured on a 640 PC and a 940. Beautiful to the eye and comfortable to the hand. After the first pair arrived I wanted another immediately.

Ok Wfevans, you requested pics & feedback from someone who has bubinga stocks from Culina. Mine just arrived this afternoon and I just finished installing them on my S&W 586.

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! I'm blown away! First, the bubinga wood is unlike any I've ever seen from the standpoint of shimmer!!! The fit and finish of this set is impeccable! They fit so precisely on my gun! The finish quality is perfection! They feel great in the hand too, with the slight "Coke" palm swell and just the right thickness for comfort without being too bulky. Jennifer was also very helpful, friendly, and easy to work with. She kept me well informed of status along the way. I'm so thrilled by my first Culinas! I foresee there will be more of their grips in my future!

I admit I was initially apprehensive about choosing bubinga because I typically like lots of high contrast figure with rich colors, much like you see in woods like cocobolo, bocote, b&w ebony, kingwood, zebrawood, etc. In the photos, it didn't appear to me that bubinga offered that. Beautiful wood to be sure; it just didn't look like bubinga had the contrasting figure I was after. Little did I know it offered other "tricks up its sleeve!" Jennifer really praised "waterfall" bubinga for its crazy chatoyance (that irredescent quality in some woods that actually look like the wood is "moving" as you tilt it in the light). She was right! Pics simply cannot do these stocks justice, as you have to rotate them in the light, and preferably sunlight to see the amazingly deep, copper colored shimmering sparkle in this wood! It's absolutely beautiful! I had little exposure to bubinga before this. I'm so impressed! Again photos cannot do it justice, as this is one of those things you have to move around in the light to appreciate its unusual shimmery chatoyance!

Thanks brother! Yeah, I found those medallions on Ebay and sent them to Culina to use.

To the best of my recollection the woods on the 13 and the 66 are French Walnut. The wood on the 19 I believe is English Walnut. The 547 is Bubinga. I can't remember what the wood is on the 681 but I do remember Jennifer telling me me it is something they don't come across often

I have posted my 4 sets of Culina grip s in Mesquite on this thread previously.
Three of them are from a tree on my ranch. I aged it for one year and then John aged it for two more years. They are fabulous . I rode horse with Mo del 57-1 wearing those grips to day.

Gorgeous! Harlow retired recently, didn't he? Who are trusted craftsmen for checkering these days? The work above is going to be tough to match.

Yes he is retired, too bad, he was very good at it. A true gentleman.
I don't know who to use now. Someone will come along I hope.
Here's a set of nicely figured S&W smooth presentation stocks he did for me. Reshaped and checkered to resemble a set of "cokes"

I agree! SS336, I believe that's the nicest looking checkering I've ever seen on a set of handgun grips! Very "Roper-ish" styling! The grips themselves are of course beautiful as-is... it's hard to beat the shape, fit, and finish of Culina's work. But Harlow's exceptional checkering takes it up another notch!

I have a very nice set of presentation stocks on my model 57 that are made from French Cake Walnut
