Bought the M and P 5.7. Got the Viridian Green Dot Site as a rebate with it. The gun is great, the RFX 15 dot sight is, meh. Dot sights are just fine for targets and such but just too slow for my uses. Hard to shoot one hand like we do on rats and snakes at the farm, so probably put the sight on something else that the grandkids shoot.

Love the M and P 5.7, fast firing and little recoil. At 76 with SLAC (trashed) in both wrists, I like that. I have 4 mags, they hold 22 rounds each. And the gun came with a little loading device so mags are easy to load.

no no no not on a wheel gun what next, a suppressor? sacrilege, do not drink the cool aid

Yes, absolutely on a wheel gun! I shoot the 625 primarily in our local IDPA-ish matches, and if it makes me faster and more accurate I'm using it.

The 'cool aid' is real... especially if you're at the point where you need readers to see the front sight. All of my 'serious' handguns have dots on them at this point. You can fight progress... but you'll lose. ;)

No pics, but I found a Winchester 62 that needs a little help. Someone in it's past gave it an all over coat of nice thick varnish, which is coming off as I type this. Then into the mechanics of it. Wood is very decent, blue isn't real bad either, couple harsh scars on the end of the barrel, that will fix easily. Needless to say I'm pretty happy!

I picked up a barely used S&W Shield 9mm with one magazine and a S&W marked bag today because I couldn’t help myself.

Took a chance on an eBay bullet mold. It looks good in the pictures. It's an RCBS 45-201-SWC. I don't have any molds for the .45 ACP and I do really like the RCBS molds. $39 but by the time they added shipping and sales tax more like $59. But RCBS molds ain't cheap new.

Due to hand strength issues and locking trigger finger, I knew that I would eventually purchase an EZ-9. Today was that day. Bought a used EZ-9 for 3 Benjamins. Two mags, and a decent holster. I will take it out tomorrow. I’ve been using the Hi Power as my primary carry. This will take its place.
I bought one of these because of the onset of arthritis in my thumbs. For what it's worth, I found that standard weight 9mm Luger ammunition would shoot low. When I tried some old 147 grain jacketed hollow point loads in the gun, the point of impact of the shots came up to meet where the gun was pointed.

Colt king cobra 22, followed by a Sig 320 with romeo sight .22. Oh yeah, forgot won a winchester longbeard pump shotgun at club picnic and another shotgun at a DU banquet Used money from DU gun to buy the Sig. Love when they give gift cards for guns value and you can pick what you want. Now I have to figure out what I am gonna trade the longbeard for.

Thanks for sharing that.

Golddollar said Congratulations on your purchase. I bought one almost just like yours some 35 years ago. Were you able to get the test target with it? I was able to put mine through a Ransom Rest and it was a fabulous shooter. I need to get back to centerfire shooting again and pull mine out..

No target, just the gun with a set of full target grips. My Ransom rest is a two hand hold and a sandbag and it is an X-ring gun at 25 yards with the AAMU load of N310/185 Nosler Competition. It is shooting groups almost as tight as my Mike Curtis wadgun.

The first rimfire suppressor you buy will change your life. Best tool on the planet to teach people to shoot and help experienced folks refine their skills. And it changes where and when you can shoot. It is 25 miles to my range, it is 25 yards to the creek behind my house where I can now shoot without anyone knowing or caring. Enjoy.

I understand. At 76 with them telling me I am 100% disabled, I understand dot sights are a crutch, especially for range games. I have them on many guns, just not any wheel guns.

And I see where they would work in matches where you have a two hand hold on the gun and time to put that dot where it needs to be. My background is military and 4 law enforcement agencies and I taught and certified CCW classes starting in 1996. So, I am still defense minded, contrary to even current law enforcement. Law enforcement shooting is no longer a self defense event, it is something different.

I am still one that in the defense context, draw and fire and the first round to hit determines the winner and loser, that said, in my experience, defense shootings are nearly always a one hand on the gun for that first round, and dot sights are slower when you need that speed and only have the one hand.

It is pretty much academic on forums, but take the guns outside and realistically run through defensive scenarios, such as parking lot robbery where you have groceries or a phone or keys other items in the hand, shooting with one hand at less than 10 feet, the dot sight offers nothing because no sights are used. The same scenario, in a home invasion, the homeowner, always has the other hand occupied, cell phone, light, grabbing the kids to push out of harms way, opening doors, etc, and one hand shooting comes into play quickly. Other than a laser, sights are not used. Taking the time to line up sights, or find a dot in a dot site gun takes up part of that nanosecond we need for the first round hit.

It is all academic because it will never happen to any of us gun guys, lol, because we are prepared.

. Curious do you have dot sights on your most carried carry gun? We noticed that lots of people could not fire the short guns like the Hellcat well, so now the put dot sights on them and push the sales based on accuracy with the dot sight in place. Pretty good marketing idea, but again, in hurried self defense shootings, it is unlikely the dot is actually used, IMHO.

If it works, go for it. I just doubt I would ever put a dot on a wheel gun, just an old guy thing.

I am also retired LE, and prior to my retirement developed, wrote and taught the transition training courses for handgun 'red dot' sights both for my agency and at our regional basic academy that trained recruits from around the state. When I retired in 2023, ~65% of academy recruits were equipped with dot sights, most of them agency issued. That number is probably over 90% now.

In my experience training hundreds of shooters with dot sights, speed and accuracy improved across almost every conceivable scenario, with the biggest gains seen in low light, multiple targets and longer distances. The caveat being that the proper techniques are utilized. It takes at least 500, and for most shooters closer to 1000 rounds to make the transition fully from irons to dots. It's a fundamental change in how you use your eyes with a handgun in a fight, and it takes time to break old habits. The results are worth it.

I would argue that the 'one handed' scenario you describe would only occur at very close distances, and when likely already entangled with an aggressor. Under those circumstances, getting any sight picture is unlikely regardless of irons/dots.

And yes, my carry guns have dots. I have proven to myself through thousands of rounds, both in dynamic training and competition, that I am faster and more accurate with the dot than I am with irons.

Sad to admit that @ 78 amid rising prices - I am in a holding pattern on toy purchases. Fortunately though, my defense needs are all met, & I have discovered a delicious way to prepare RAMEN NOODLES - that I really like.
