The first rimfire suppressor you buy will change your life. Best tool on the planet to teach people to shoot and help experienced folks refine their skills. And it changes where and when you can shoot. It is 25 miles to my range, it is 25 yards to the creek behind my house where I can now shoot without anyone knowing or caring. Enjoy.
Yes, absolutely on a wheel gun! I shoot the 625 primarily in our local IDPA-ish matches, and if it makes me faster and more accurate I'm using it.
The 'cool aid' is real... especially if you're at the point where you need readers to see the front sight. All of my 'serious' handguns have dots on them at this point. You can fight progress... but you'll lose.
I understand. At 76 with them telling me I am 100% disabled, I understand dot sights are a crutch, especially for range games. I have them on many guns, just not any wheel guns.
And I see where they would work in matches where you have a two hand hold on the gun and time to put that dot where it needs to be. My background is military and 4 law enforcement agencies and I taught and certified CCW classes starting in 1996. So, I am still defense minded, contrary to even current law enforcement. Law enforcement shooting is no longer a self defense event, it is something different.
I am still one that in the defense context, draw and fire and the first round to hit determines the winner and loser, that said, in my experience, defense shootings are nearly always a one hand on the gun for that first round, and dot sights are slower when you need that speed and only have the one hand.
It is pretty much academic on forums, but take the guns outside and realistically run through defensive scenarios, such as parking lot robbery where you have groceries or a phone or keys other items in the hand, shooting with one hand at less than 10 feet, the dot sight offers nothing because no sights are used. The same scenario, in a home invasion, the homeowner, always has the other hand occupied, cell phone, light, grabbing the kids to push out of harms way, opening doors, etc, and one hand shooting comes into play quickly. Other than a laser, sights are not used. Taking the time to line up sights, or find a dot in a dot site gun takes up part of that nanosecond we need for the first round hit.
It is all academic because it will never happen to any of us gun guys, lol, because we are prepared.
. Curious do you have dot sights on your most carried carry gun? We noticed that lots of people could not fire the short guns like the Hellcat well, so now the put dot sights on them and push the sales based on accuracy with the dot sight in place. Pretty good marketing idea, but again, in hurried self defense shootings, it is unlikely the dot is actually used, IMHO.
If it works, go for it. I just doubt I would ever put a dot on a wheel gun, just an old guy thing.
