66-2 3” Ashland special

Not for less than a grand around here. Notice the longer ejector rod...that is the big advantage over the shorter snubbys. Great revolver. I wish I had one!!!!
You are absolutely right about the longer ejector rods.
Even though I have several J frames, and like them all, the ones with barrels of 2 1/8" or longer and have the longer ejector rods are my favorites.

The Smith family you have there is lookin' pretty good!

Thanks!

I need to re-shoot that group. I now have all four pre-lock 3" 66's 66-2, 66-3, 66-4, and 66-5

I have some other 3" K-frames as well. Maybe I need an all 3" grouping? J, K, & N?

Stay safe.

My 3-inch .357s, one a Model 66 and the other a Model 60, are often carried around the mountain when not carrying a .44. I do like my revolvers for walk-a-bout guns.

I have had one of those 3" Model 60's for 25+ years. One of my favorites.

Since you brought the subject up, I'm happy to retell my story regarding the 66-3, K-frame, Round Butt revolver.

Bought my first one new in the late '80s for $365.00. Not a small sum at the time. The round butt made the large 'K' frame fit my hand like it was made specifically for me. Most of the large frame revolvers at the time had huge wood grips that made it impossible for me to hold the pistol inline with my arm. Grabbing one from the holster and bringing it up to shooting position (finger on the trigger) resulted in the barrel pointing well to the right of the target. The grips were just too big for my hand. The 66-3 RB was just the answer I needed.
About 4 years back I sold most of my firearms and the very large safe that housed them. The Smith was included in those sales. I did keep my Kimber 4" CDPII however.
Sellers remorse got me big-time. Searched and found another 66-3 here and grabbed it up. Even the seller had sellers remorse. I'll let my wife deal with selling it after I'm gone. Until then it will remain by my side.

Got this one directly from Ashland, way back when:

After this target, in order to save hard-to-find SilverTip ammo, I gave the rear sight two clicks elevation and didn't bother firing a confirmation group.

My widow will probably need to deal with this revolver after my time is up.

It's marked 66-3.
Had to eat my words, … and so soon too. It now belongs to CH4. The arthritis in my hands was starting to get the better of me, when dealing with light-ish .357MAG revolvers, and CH4 suggested I trade it to him for something I could find more useful, so I did (a trim DAO 3953, with a BAR-STO barrel which also fits perfectly in my 3913). Plus, I had already acquired a 3" 65. So, this 66 is no longer a potential problem for my future widow.
