Auction on M-53

It's a "hibid" auction house in Geneva NY. They have a Sportsmans auction every other month. You can go back and look on their site to 2017 and see what they had. That's where I got my M24-6 that started it all for me.

Rick

I get great deals from HiBid auctions. I don't even go to the "regular" gun auction sites anymore.

I really, really would like to add a 53 to my collection. And honestly I'd shoot .22 long rifle the majority of the time, so I will have to have one with the extra cylinder, I don't like the idea of messing with the inserts.

I like the 53 because it's the only rimfire that Smith & Wesson makes looks like the model 19. I really prefer look of an ejector shroud.

I would also like to try shooting and loading the .22 Jet cartridge, but probably wouldn't shoot much of it because of the throat erosion problems.

Someone got a steal!
Maybe not! The mod 53 is a known barrel burner and the Remington factory ammo is the cause! When looking to buy a mod 53, look at the breach face inside the cylinder window!

If this is what you see, it will cost you many dollars to fix and there are no new barrels left at the factory! The accuracy will probably not be affected out to about 50yds, but at 100yds you will have a better pattern than a group! Plus, factory Rem ammo is very hard to find and expensive ($100/box +)! PPU was making a reduced load, but I have not seen any for sale lately! Reloading is a necessity if you are going to shoot your mod 53! Shooting at a range is a lot of fun when you say, "going hot, cover up" and people look at you and say "he is only shooting a 22"!

I got 3 boxes of PPU Jet on GB a couple of months ago for $90. A good deal

I am a gun tinkerer and I love my Jet. I scored brass and dies and shoot it all the time. I keep the loads down some and wipe the chambers before shooting and no issues. Would love to find a LR and Magnum cylinder!

I'm not entirely sure but I don't think .22 MRF cylinders were ever available as a factory option...I know they have been custom made...And isn't the inside diameter of the LR and the MRF slightly different?...If I'm wrong maybe I should look around for a MRF cylinder for mine... :censored: ...Ben

No you're right the .22 mag is a .224 bullet and the Jet is a .222 bullet. But I load certain .224 bullets in the Jet and they're accurate with no problems. The mag option is more about shooting than collecting. Also I've seen these guns listed with all three cylinders fitted.
