FBI 1076 Grip Experts ….

I thought there was an old thread on the three types of deriln grips that S&W supplied to the FBI for their contract 1076s. In particular, this thread contained width (or "girth") measurements of these grips, as I recall. But try as I might, couldn't find it.

The three grip types were the straight backstrap, the arched backstrap, and the so-called "palm-swell" backstrap which was also arched but noticeably thicker in width than the other two. I have a box with a bunch of 3rd Gen straight and arched derlin grips for the 45XX- and 10XX-guns, including those specifically for frame-mounted decocker pistols.

Can anybody confirm the width/girth measurement of the palm-swell grip? The one I found in my stash that seems to be a legit palm-swell grip measures 1.229-1.231" (with a digital caliper), depending on where the caliper "arms" are placed on the thickest section of the grip.

My other arched backstrap grips are running like, 1.215-22" at the widest point, depending.

Sorry my calipers are away but I'll post pics of my set to give you a bump. Funny I come across these but have nothing to put them on as my 4026 takes a smaller size.

Part number is 20500000 for the FBI palm swell... I still have 3 pair in the S/W bag they sent to me, I have two pair mounted.. The measurements I took were (with manual caliper) 1.182... I also checked the standard curved backslap and they are about 1.163... All the measurements were from the grips not installed on a gun..To me the difference is insignificant.

That's waaay less width than what my digital calipers measured, but the numbers I posted above were from measuring with the grips on the gun. I even checked twice to be sure my caliper was calibrated before measuring.

Just going by 'plain feel,' i.e., gripping the gun in your hand, the felt-difference in girth between the palm-swell grip and the 'standard' arched grip is significant.
