Kraig,
Now thats one of the neatest ones posted yet.

Welcome to the forum...you gotta helluva start here

Model 28 Ser.# N103XXX which places it in 1973. The grips were given to me by a buddy who found them at a gun show and I have no idea who makes them.

Purchased this S&W model 28 from a fellow at work. It is a 28-2, P&R, serial #N29509x.
It originally sported a 6" barrel, but it was badly bulged. And some nasty Pachmayr Grippers.
I purchased a 4" barrel from the classifieds, and Ken Kelly at Magna-Port swap the barrels. Installed a set of Magna grips, and this is the result.
Picture of bulged barrel.

I don't have any pictures yet. I have a 28-2, 6", with recessed cylinders, non-pinned
barrel, never fired. Serial # N9541XX. Any opinions?

New to me 28

I just purchased a Mod. 28-2 yesturday. SN N877**, a 5 digit sn. The pistol is a 4", target hammer, target trigger, red insert front sight, white outline rear site, and target grips. I got it for a good price in my area. Just thought I would make my first post special.

New to forum

This is a great thread and has helped alot in my research. I have several N frames, one a pre 28 s/ S1347XX, a 6". It has about 90% finish left, the apparent result of some poor storage by the previous owner. Mechanically it is tight as the day it left the factory. Any thoughts on factory refinishes, what it may do to the value/collectability? I'l post some pictures when I get a chance. BTW, I gave 360 for it at a local gunshop.[/I]

This is a great Thread - Let me add my Highway Patrolman 6 inch bbl. to the list. It is serial number
S1173** produced 1954-1955. It has some honest wear but functions perfectly. It is one of my favorite models.

Pre 28

This is a great thread. I have learned a lot.

Here is a pic of my pre-28. It isn't as pretty as most of those shown on this thread. It has a lot of honest holster wear but I don't think it has been fired much. Locks up tight and the original grips still look great after all 54 years. SN: S1343XX makes it, I believe, about 1954-1955.

Another intersting feature on this pistol is that the hammer is jeweled on both sides and in very good condition. Does anyone else have a jeweled hammer from that era?

Yipee, I just picked mine up today! It is awesome. 28-2 6in barrel, blued, black rubber packmayr (sp?) grips. Serial # S3222xx. It is nicer than I anticipated and everything seems to work just fine with it. I am going to figure out how to send a picture. You just can't hardly find one of these revolvers in my area, I got it through gunbroker.
