I have a pair of boots that recently got pretty water logged after a stay on the Oregon coast so I dried them and treated them with a camp dry water proof spray. It did the job but got me thinking, would it be beneficial to water proof my leather holster as well? I use it while I'm out back packing or hunting and thought the extra water protection might help. Or would it be detrimental to my gun? Just your thoughts please thanks guys

I've had better luck with Gortex boots (wet on one side) than with leather holsters in a real downpour or dunked in the swamp (wet on both sides). "Waterproofing" helps--sorta.

Kydex holsters and polymer pistols are much easier to deal with after a dunking or soaking than revolvers in leather holsters.
If I am hunting with my long-barrel revolver, it goes in a bandolier synthetic holster under a Gortex jacket in the rain.

Only know what I read......Spray might be OK, but you want to stay away from mink oil, neatsfoot, etc. as they soften the leather and it loses it retention properties.

Pecard dressing is sold as a waterproofing agent, but here in the desert we don't have much chance to try it out. I don't know if it's Ph neutral, so as not to be destructive to the leather in the long run.
