At the Flea Market near us, there's a guy who is a saddle maker, he uses scrap leather from his saddle making to make holsters for revolvers and knives, super heavy duty leather and stitching. I had previously bought a snap holster from him for a Buck folding knife, and was very happy with it.

A few weeks ago he had a box of junk for sale, in it was an unfinished flap holster, he said he had made it for a small black powder revolver like a Colt Pocket Model and didn't like the way it had come out. I asked him if he had tried any other revolvers in it, he said "The only thing I could find that would fit in it is a Ruger Bearcat, maybe you are familiar with them"...

I replied "I have heard of the Ruger Bearcat"....

$5.00 later the holster was mine, now I just had to find a way to finish it. It needed some manner of closing it, I carved a wooden button and fashioned a rawhide loop for the button to pass through and secure the flap, looks and works good.

It is marked "CSA", so if Virginia secedes again, I'll have a proper holster for my revolver and won't stand out. Till then, it should make a nice hiking and canoeing holster, don't think I'll ever wear it out.

Here's some pics:

That's a delightfully rustic holster and I like the way you solved the problem of securing the flap.
It looks rugged and useable, all ya really need in a holster for outdoors activities.
I'd probably give it a coat of Tan-kote or something to help protect it from the elements but that'd be all I'd do to it.

That is so cool. If he has another I would love to get one.
