You might consider a Barami hip grip. Not a holster but i holds your J frame VERY low with just the grip above the belt line. Since the cylinder is below the belt, the gun gets locked in nicely.

Had several custom made by Black Dog leather, Martinsburg, PA. Chris Dick is the owner. It is similar to a Lawrence IWB from 30 years ago but only has one belt loop. Easy to get off and on and can be worn anywhere around the waist. Used them for years and have given away several.

You might look Crossbreed holsters web site... Their products are excellently made & have a trial using period with money back guarantee...what is not to like about that? We have one for my old Colt Agent...

Make sure you can access the gun in a low riding clip holster. I picked up one in our range's "junk box" and used it when I felt I needed extra concealment. However, it WAS harder to access. A trade-off, as are many things in life.
Many firms make clip IWB jobs and make them poorly. The only suitable suede clip holsters IMO are produced by Bianchi/ Safariland. They run about $30, IIRC.

I use a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster for my 642. It carries relatively low but still offers good accessibility. My personal preference is for holsters that carry the cylinder more-or-less in line with my belt, which the Quick Clip does.
Here's my holster and gun. You can look at the clip to get an idea of where the gun would be carried in relation to the belt.
Side Guard has other IWB holsters in different styles available.
I don't have any experience with their holsters, but Bell Charter Oak offers some low riding IWB holsters and they have a solid reputation for quality work.

Alessi Deep Cover. They only make it for 1-7/8" J-frames. Very thin but durable; the clip attaches to your pants, not the belt, and doesn't move under fast draw; rides low -- the grip runs the top of the pants line.
It's about perfect for that particular revolver in that kind of carry.

How low-riding are you looking for? Here is my 640-3 in a Lobo offset clip IWB holster. The grip rides just above the top of my pants. It disappears under an untucked shirt.
From what I understand Lobo holsters are back in production under new owners. The one pictured is left hand, I understand that right hand versions may be available also...

Here are some that I've owned. The two on the bottom are my favorites. They're both thin and ride pretty low.
Top row is an Alabama Offside and Barber Leather Works Tuckable iwb.
Middle row is an ETW Holster IWB (EBay) and Garrett Silent Thunder Revolver IWB.
Bottom row is a Lobo Offset Clip IWB and an Alessi Talon.

After a good deal of experience with the maker and his products, I beleive it will be very difficult for you to find a better IWB holster for your 442/642 than the Slim XC made by TTGunleather. It rides as low as any I have used and it is extremely comfortable as well as functional. Tim makes this holster without reinforcement and it is not needed as it is contstructed with the rear (body) side flat and the outer side molded to the gun. This provides great comfort, great retention, and the holster does not collapse making insertion difficult. Tim does not recommend carrying the holster empty for long periods of time.
I have a few of these holsters for both semi autos and revolvers. I carry several J Frames regularly in mine. I had him make it to fit J frames with a 2 1/8" barrel and the shorter barreled models fit and work just fine in this holster. Tim is a great vendor, and his wait times are reasonable, although he is a bit behind now as result of his original shop being destroyed by a serious fire some time ago. I can recommend his work highly and he is a GREAT vendor. His IWB holsters are the only ones I personally have been able to use with satisfaction all day long every day. Website is TTGunleather.com .

Can't go wrong with simply rugged or concealment solutions. Both hold up very well and top quality.

Been carrying my G 43 in a De Santis Nemesis. You can put it as high or low as you's like. I know they make one for the S&W 640 though I haven't bought one.

Isn't the Nemesis a pocket holster? Edited: A google search showed me some folks using it as an IWB holster similar to the Remora.

I am sure some company still makes the suede IWB holster for your gun. After trying out many expensive holsters over the years, I went to the Safariland or Bianchi suede holsters. They conform to the gun's shape over time, are comfortable, the best part is they are inexpensive.

Nice pictures guys..
There's a lot to be said for a clip holster where the clip isn't on top of the cylinder, They carry so much better that away..

I picked this one up a few years ago. I don't carry it alot but it works well for summer wear. The rear of the butt rides even with the top of the belt/pants so nothing rides above the belt. With the shirt tucked in and just bloused a little bit it covers. Obviously it's not as fast as an OWB or most IWB but it conceals really well and doesn't require digging in your pants to get to the gun. It's actually more comfortable than IWB where the cylinder rides at the belt line.
I can't remember the make. There's no markings on it.

For deep riding or deep concealment IWB holster designs my first recommendation would be forum member "old flatfoot", screen name Lefty, doing business as Bell Charter Oak Holsters. You should be able to find him in the forum's "vendors" section.
Excellent designs and execution, and always a gentleman to deal with.

The Lobo Offset and Alessi Talon ride at similar heights and are both excellent holsters. The Offset uses an over-the-belt clip, while the Talon clips onto the pants-edge, under the belt. Both work as designed.
The Alessi Deep Cover is similar to the Talon, uses the same clip, but rides even lower.

Look for a low riding iwb holster for smith 442/642?

Ordered my alessi deep cover about 3 months ago, just received it, thanks for the info everyone . Hopefully I'll really like the fact I can't clip to belt and it holds just as nice as an over the belt clip. Very very nicely made I'll tell you that . Best quality holster I have ever had for sure.

I just received a new Lobo offset clip for a 640 and find it equal to the older ones.
Great holsters.
