I know a lot of folks ask what to use to help the looks a leather product. I use Blackrock Leather 'N' Rich. I thought it might be a good idea to post some before and after pictures so people could see what it can do. Here is a holster that I recently bought, and posted here, that needed some help. Here are the detailed before and after pictures so you can see the difference. If some of you other folks have some before and after pictures, please post them here too so others can see what "magic" this stuff can do.

Before and After:

boykinlp - good pictures. Basic description of your process - preclean, coats, etc. Suggested source of this product.

PS: are you a Boykin man? Had one and a few E Springer Spaniels. Great dogs.

Tom,
If I think they are bad, I will clean them with saddle soap first.

My method is to put the Blackrock Leather 'N Rich on with my finger. A little goes a long way. Don't put it on too thick. Then, I do something that I think works, but others may not. I hit the holster with a hair dryer. I think it makes it soak in the holster better, but it may be my imagination. Then, I let the holster sit over night or until it is not sticky anymore. Then I brush it with a horse hair shoe brush. If I don't think it looks like I want it, I may do the whole process again.

I buy the Blackrock on Amazon.

I am a Boykin man. I have had 2. The first one was 13 years old when it passed. My current one is 14 years old. Here is Marley as a puppy and more recent:

Here's one I dug out of the closet today.
Before was pretty groaty.
After, not so bad. After it dries overnight, I will buff it with a nylon sock and restore a little more sheen.

Bruce,
Excellent Myres jockstrap holster! They are my favorite. Fantastic restoration, and I am sure it will be even better after the sock treatment! Getting rid of the verdigris was good too. I still say Blackrock works magic!

Do you remember all of the photos on the news after the big Exxon oil
spill up in Alaska? The poor birds covered with oil? Do you know what
the volunteers were using to get the oil off those poor birds? Dawn
dishwasher soap.

So I figured if Dawn is strong enough to get the oil off, but gentle enough
to not hurt the birds, it should clean the oil and grime off from a holster
that has been oiled and is grimy and dirty.

Just a couple of drops is enough. Scrub real good with a sponge. Rinse
it off. I too use the hair dryer, warm and low speed.

When thoroughly dry, massage the BlackRock in to the leather with your
fingers. Just like the old hair stuff "a little dab will do you". Wipe off all
of the excess, and either let it dry naturally or use the hair dryer again
if you are in a hurry. Warm and low speed.

Brillo makes little cans of leather color spray. I used it on this one for
the final step.

I always got BlackRock at my local saddle shop, but they have boarded
up and went out of business, so I will be looking for another (preferably)
local source. Get my Brillo from ebay. They might have BlackRock too.

Before on the left. After on the right.

The holster is a Viking model 60. The revolver is Model 10-5 with
2" barrel. The grips are Grasshorns. The knife is a Puma Prince.

I have this Viking 55M that I thought looked a little dry, photo at left.

So I gave it the BlackRock Leather 'N Rich treatment. 2nd from left.
Didn't see a whole bunch of difference.

Wiped a little Fiebings Tan Kote on it. 3rd from left.
I think that does make it shine a little more.

I learned about BlackRock from turnerriver a long time ago, and have
been using it ever since.

I learned about Fiebing's Tan Kote from Red Nichols, and use it quite
often too.

I have learned a lot from those 2 Gurus, and several others here on
the forum.
