Hey y'all. I just got a model 65-2 with 3" barrel and now I need to start thinking about holsters. Anybody here got any experience or recommendations? Right hand and outside the waistband. Just bought the gun so I'm broke but eventually I'll need one. Thanks!

I like the DeSantis Speed Scabbard..they do special runs of 3" K-frames one in a while. I have the SS for most of my guns..

I've only carried a 3" 65 in an IWB holster, but I can tell you from experience that the work of Milt Sparks, Kramer Leather, Side Guard Holsters, and TT Gunleather is excellent and worth the price and wait time. Of these, Side Guard Holsters will probably be the least expensive.

I like the Bianchi 111 for fixed sight K frames. They are great for open carry and conceal quite easily under a sport jacket or Goretex coat. Target sighted 2"-3" K-Frames fit the holster just fine but the rear sight blade is exposed and may be hard on your jacket lining.

For a right hand 3" K-Frame it is SKU: 1015707 PART: 12676

Simply Rugged

When I had a Model 65 three inch, I carried in a Simply Rugged Pancake Holster. Good products. Here is one with my Ruger SP-101

Thank you for the advice! A very generous "anonymous" board member is sending me one. Another of the many reasons I enjoy this board so much is it's members and their kindness. Merry Christmas to all!

DeSantis thumbstrap pancake is what my Model 13 3" rides in. I've actually got one for each of my revolvers I like them so much.

Happy New Year jscheck,

As a cop or retired cop, I'm sure you know that holsters lack universal application. What is perfect for one is all wrong for another. I have more useless gun leather than a cattle rancher. I have custom made duty holsters that were highly recommended. They are great holsters, but they were not great for me.

My advice is to go to a gun show or any other venue where you'd be likely to find various types of holsters. Try on as many as you can until you find the one that's perfect for you.

I do own more than a few custom made holsters. I love Ryan Grizzle's Georgia Snap holster. I own two. I might buy a third. They are works of art. But they might be all wrong for you.

Azula offers excellent quality holsters at very reasonable prices.

As a general rule, custom made holsters are usually of better quality than mass produced holsters. But there are exceptions to every rule, and there are exceptions to the custom handgun holster rule. I own too many Galco holsters. However, Galco's quality is every bit as good as any custom holster I own. In fact, I might buy a Speed Paddle for my Model 66-8 if I were to decide to carry it for bipedal self-defense. I use a Galco Combat Master for it now. The Combat Master is an excellent holster.

I wish you the absolute best of luck. As important, I hope you're able to avoid the very expensive mistakes I've made. I wouldn't be surprised to see a USDA cattle inspector to show up at my front door to inspect my holster ranch ;-)

Buy what's right for you, not what's right for a person recommending a holster.

El Paso Saddlery "Street Combat"open topped pancake holster. Geat holster decent price, will last forever. I have one for my 2.5 in 66 (that i sold) that is over 30 year old and I use it for my 2" M64 and have used it for a 3" M65

This S&W stamped pancake holster is nicely made and works great. It was listed as fitting 2 1/2" K frames, but it works fine with the 3" as well. Not sure who made it, but S&W had it listed in in their catalogs. It is model B44 32. Check around on the web. One may be available for cheap.
The comparison pics are a 66 snub and a 3".

The company that made S&W leather was/is Gould & Goodrich. Not sure if they are still in business. They made good serviceable police gear but IMHO not to the quality of Bianchi or Safariland.

My friend has sent me a Bianchi pancake thumb break holster which I've found to work great! Thank you for all the advice!

I've had a 3" 65 since 1986..... and I can tell you there is a reason most of us have a "Big Box-O-Holsters".

When I carry concealed in a urban setting it's IWB with a Milt Sparks Summer Special.............

In Penn's Woods it's a Bianchi 111 Cyclone cross-draw...... 11 o'clock for woods walking ...... pushed back to 9 for going into town.

Good luck on your search .............................
