I Googled the Hunter Holster Size Chart.
They show a 4.75" Peacemaker is size 45
They show a 4.75" Single Action Army is size 40.
What am I missing? I didn't know they are different.

Colt made a Peacemaker (fixed sight) and New Frontier (adjustable sight) rimfire in the 70’s or 80’s. They were about 3/4 scale, maybe a little bigger and some had auxiliary .22 Mag cylinders. Could be that...

Here's a snip of an old Hunter size chart. Looking at the models listed with the 40 and 45 sized holsters it looks like maybe one is for full size SA's and the other for scaled down versions of SA's. The 45 size is up to 6" barrels.

Then the only difference might be that the model 45 will handle a 6" barrel and the model 40 seems to be for adj sight models with all of the Rugers that are listed. One of them may be a closed toe model as well. Who knows..?

CZU Your chart shows the same thing. The Single Action Army 4.75" is
shown as size 40, and the Peacemaker 4.75" is shown as size 45.
Phil,
See my earlier post. The catalog page confirms my suspicions. Size 45 is for the scaled down .22 versions. Note the first Colt item listed is the Frontier Scout, which was their first small frame SA rimfire. They subsequently released other scaled down .22’s with case colored frames, the .22 Peacemaker (fixed sight) and the .22 New Frontier (adjustable sight).

The name New Frontier was also used for full sized adjustable sight SAA’s and Peacemaker was the name given to full sized SAA’s in the 1800’s.

It’s no more confusing than S&W’s use of M&P or Bodyguard. 20 years ago, M&P meant a K frame DA revolver and a Bodyguard was a J frame with a shrouded hammer. Today, M&P covers an entire line of guns and can be one of many semi-auto pistols and evil black rifles, or it can the original revolver. They even have M&P Bodyguards, which can be a pistol or a revolver.

The first photo is a Colt Frontier Scout .22. The second photo shows a similar sized .22 New Frontier and a full sized Gen 1 SAA. Pardon the reflection and dust, but it’s a lot of work pulling them out of the display case!

Which all means that we must be very specific when talking about a
Peacemaker or Single Action Army. Meanwhile I sent an email to Hunter.
Will see if anyone there has an explanation.

I received a response to my email from Kyle Taylor, who is the Director
of Operations at Hunter. Here are reasons he sighted for different listing
for 4.75" Peacemaker and 4.75" SAA:

The SAA has a slightly larger front sight post depending on the generation.

1st and 2nd generations of SAAs have slightly tapered barrels.

SAA trigger plate slightly thicker than on the Peacemaker.

SAA has a smaller tab on the ejection rod allowing the holster
to be slimmer.

Everyone makes a version of the SAA so we (Hunter) tailored
our holster to fit the majority of them.

So now we know.
