Looking For Ankle Holster Recommendations
It's time to replace my 20 year old Renegade ankle holster.
I don't see as many options as I expected, and many are obviously junk.
What are y'all wearing? It'll need to fit a 365XL with an optic, and need to fit at the top of or above my 6" Danner boots. I've found some quality holsters won't fit around the boot or my larger than normal calf and they don't have a Velcro expansion piece.
The Alien Gear Shapeshifter looks promising, but I'm not impressed with their other holsters.
Thanks!

Take a look at DeSantis Apache ankle holster. It is lined with sheepskin
and quite adjustable.

Most comfortable I've worn was a Galco Ankle Glove (J frame), but was a bit bulky.
Otherwise, I like my Alessi and Ritchie Ankle holsters. They are very close to the same. For a Kel Tec P11 (when I was poor) and a J frame respectively.
ETA, for what you want I'd check with Garrity Gunleather, he along with Wilderness are doing a modernized Renegade. He makes a leather holster version that might be able to accommodate your sight.

I ankle carry a 640 pro in a Galco Ankle glove. Like xtrtsqrt11 said, it’s a little bulky, but comfortable. I wear Engineer’s boots to work in, and it snuggles nicely down into the boot.

I found a new old stock Uncle Mike's for under $20 shipped. I'll give it a try... Figure if it's not for me I haven't lost much.
If it doesn't work out I'll but a Wilderness Renegade.
Thanks for the recommendations!

I’ve still got my original Renegade Cozy Pardner for my M38. In fact I bought a spare before Renegade went out of business so I’m afraid I can’t offer any suggestions.

IMHO the Renegade was the best ankle holster going. The Wilderness is still producing the Renegade holster. They bought out the rights when Renegade closed down...
Wilderness Copy of the Renegade Ankle Holsters
I carried a Shield in one of the new Renegades for a while and was perfectly happy with it. I'm currently using a Galco Ankle Glove with my P365... it's not bad, but I'm planning to order another Renegade.

If by chance you are looking at different concepts like the Bug Bite, avoid that. I tried it and it's not safe.

Pricey, but very high quality! You gets what you pays fer!
Kramer Leather - Ankle Gun Holster
I carried an ankle holster (custom made by Bruce Nelson many years ago) for a few years. One day I stepped out of my car in the middle of a snow storm and my leg went into a 7" ice cold deep puddle I was not aware of - it was snowing quite hard! Well, after getting home and disassembling the entire gun to dry it and lightly oil it to displace moisture, I retired that ankle holster and discovered pocket carry.

I will second the call for Desantis Apache. I have owned dozens of ankle holsters, and apart from maybe the old JayPee rig I inherited, nothing comes close to the Apache.

My job requires business casual dress, a lot of sitting, driving, etc. Ankle carry is sometimes the best option. I have a box of ankle holsters Wilderness Renegade (elastic and leather), Kramer, Alessi, DeSantis Apache, Galco Ankle Glove, and a few others.
For me, the Wilderness Tactical Renegade (elastic) is the winner by a good margin. This is for Smith J and Colt D frames. It's the most comfortable, secure, and concealable. I can wear it all day. Also, the black elastic disappears against a black dress sock if my pants leg rides up. It is also reasonably priced. Folks mentioned a few other good options.

I have used the Renegade for years, my only comment is that the new version from Wilderness is constructed of a much stiffer material that I find less comfortable.
IMHO it has the best retention system available, particularly for J frame revolvers.

I find most ankle holsters I can't wear comfortably more than a couple of hours except for the Galco Ankle Glove. I can carry a J-Frame in it all day with no problem.

Wore an ankle holster during my LE career for 14 or so years of it.
Had 2 both made by Lou Alessi, may he RIP, back when Lou answered the phone when you called.
One for Glock 26 and one for 642. Both outlasted my LE career and were handed down to a younger friend. He had velcro replaced on one but last I knew still in use.
I don't know if I would go with Alessi today but give RITCHIE Leather a look over. Same design and the two worked together.
Specify if you need it for boot wear.
