Default IWB FOUND!

I have been thinking that I need an IWB holster for my 1911
Gov't model. If you have one that you especially like, please
show me a picture and where you got it. Thanks.

I love my Alien Gear holsters. I'm a big guy and they are really comfortable for all day wear. CrossBreed has also be a choice of mine.

Third vote for Sparks VMII. I have one for a Commander length 1911, Sig 239 and S&W 3913. Have one of their executive companions for a govt model 1911. Milt Sparks leather is located in Garden City, Idaho. They do show to have their Summer Special II for a 5" 1911 in stock.

Default TT Gunleather

Well I have only had it for a week now, and it's not a Govt model, but I am really liking this holster from Gun Holster | TTGunLeather

Super comfortable ( already) and really well made.

My SIL has a Colt 1911 Government Model holstered in a MTR Custom Leather deluxe thoroughbred holster that he raves about after trying several others.

He likes the quality and how it spreads the weight out, along with the ability to adjust the cant, and the backing they put on the holster. He also bought the same model for his FN FNX.

Stealth Gear Revolution. I think it's actually called the Ultralite or some such these days. I carried a CBST for several years, but the SG is much more comfortable, thanks to the ventilated backing.

If I needed another IWB holster for a semiauto, I’d call TT Gun Leather as well. Got a very nice pancake holster from them first and now use a Mike’s Special for an Sig P365 XL. I have no doubt that Milt Sparks makes excellent holsters but these cost a bit less, are high quality, and arrive much sooner. Oh and the guy on the phone seems to be the person making the holsters. His advice was spot on for me.

When I use an IWB with my 1911’s, it’s a DelFatti.

Note: I’ve found that good IWB holsters for 1911’s need to be built for either the Government model or Commander sized : the 3/4” difference in slide/barrel length makes a difference to me.

Some IWB 1911 holsters create a much more difficult presentation for Government models than for Commander sized pistols. This is because the extra length of the Government model requires you clear more leather on drawing than a Commander.

It’s easy to anticipate the 4 3/4” Commander length barrel when presenting a Government model. Do it with an IWB and you’ll likely find that you haven’t cleared the holster before you begin rotating the barrel orientation from either a perpendicular holster or one with an FBI cant to the horizontal configuration that has you pointing at the target.

I can compensate by having my IWB Government model holsters built with a bit more FBI cant than I need on a Commander holster or a deeper cut out at the front of the holster to allow the longer Government model to clear the front of the holster upon presentation without modifying the cant.

Not all holster makers will customize their products, so I only buy from those that will. That’s why I buy DelFatti or Milt Sparks holsters: their businesses are custom holster manufacturers not limited to reproducing a specific set of products. Of course, since these aren’t off the wall products it takes some time between ordering and receiving the customized holsters.

Delfatti is the best of the best. If you get on his waiting list now you will have it by 2031 as he is working on orders from 2015.

Another vote for Milt Sparks
I have a Nexus IWB that I really like, the holster has a bit more forward cant than the VMII MS holster. I haven't seen the Nexus on MS website lately?
I carry a DW CCO or a Colt combat commander, the Nexus does a great job with my Beltman belt

Crossbreed Super Tuck gets my vote. I’ve tried several and this is the only one that’s comfortable for me. Great customer service too.

I have used a Comp-Tac MTAC with a tan leather finish for 15 years now but my wife bought me a black leather back half stating the tan leather on my old one "looked " bad !! Well I still wear the old one with my 1911 and the new Black back half for my m&p 4.25 .

The MTAC is a very adjustable holster for cant and height most do not offer and there belt clips hold up very well over the years . I still have the first set of there C-Clips on my oldest mtac . 15 years later . The company has a new owner and they dropped some holster sizes or you have to look at other 1911 brands to get a 5" 1911 body if you order for comp-tac you order for a kimber Custom 5" ! For some reason the new owners stopped making these for 5" but if you get this one below you will like it , long term .
This holster may wear less on a nice handguns finish better than leather holsters and it works well for draw and fire drills as it stays open and fits a body comfortably even at a 3:00 carry like I do .
Click the amazon name in blue below .

The original design of the Summer Special was by Bruce Nelson. It came
to be the IWB by which all others are judged. Milt Sparks started making
them, and added a sight track, a metal stiffener in the top opening to make
easier re-holstering, and added another snap strap. Nelson's design only
had one strap.

Very nice product. The metal inside the mouth of the holster, though, was original to the Nelson and was not a Sparks innovation. Milt only copied so even the sight rails were a Berns-Martin innovation.

RandyP, thank you for your comment. The belt was made by Haugen

rednichols, thank you for your comments too. Why don't you go to
Milt Sparks web site and tell them what you told me. They might be
interested in knowing the truth.
