Hi All and Wise

This Safety Speed Holster has just come up for sale down here in Australia. The back of the holster says "44" and "4".

I am wanting to find out what Size Frame this holster fits. The owner, who appears to have bought a bulk lot from a Closing Down Sale Antique Store, believes the holster is for a 4" Smith & Wesson. He does not know the frame size. From what I gathered, I do not believe he is actually a firearms owner.

Can anyone assist me and tell me what size S&W this holster will fit?

Many thanks.

In the lingo of the times, '44' meant 'N frame'. Used among esp. the LEO makers such as SS, Clark, and Lewis for example. Makers like the Bucheimer companies and Lawrence used proprietary fitment numbers, makers like Bianchi et al used the actual words (large frame for 'N', medium frame for 'K' for which in them thar days, the word '.38' was used by Clark and '.357' by Hoyt). By all means recall that the first of the N frames was a .44 Spl and even the .38/44; and for many decades afterwards.
