Crown Royal Whiskey Bags
Does anyone use Crown Royal whiskey bags for gun storage?
I have a number of them since my wife loves the "Crown". I am a scotch drinker!
I thought about using them after a coating of REN Wax.
Any thoughts?

I have stored guns in them and keep the choke tubes for my Red Label in one.I also have a friend who keeps reels in them. I have a drawer full and will put something in them. I bought a nickel 58 from handejector at the SWCA meeting in Richmond and transported it home in such a bag.

I actually use a "felt" bag that a pair of dress shoes came in. I use it to store a non-S&W .22 kit gun that I have. If the gun is cleaned and coated, I don't see why not. But, I do realy like the "bore-stores" gun rugs. They are pretty cheap.

Instant drug search if a Crown Royal bag is spotted in your car. Every old hippy thinks they're the first one to hide their stash in a velvet pouch.

They can be used for something's but not guns. They offer no padding/protection, AND since there made from a flannel/velvet material they will trap in moisture and cause rust to develop. A cotton sock will at least breath, but a gun sock is more appropriate as they are coated with silicon

They are nice bags, but I do not drink Crown, so I do not have any...
I am a Scotch drinker, and a lot of the Scotch I drink comes in Tubes...
So I have a "bunch" of them and use them for all kinds of things...

I store coins in them until I find time to roll them. Same for shoe bags. And I have one full of ammo that I've collected, not stuff that I'll shoot.

I have three or four guns in Crown Royal bags. The guy who owns the Colt Cobra Jack Ruby used to kill Oswald keeps it in a Crown Royal bag. He was on TV and sometimes lets others shoot the gun and he sells the spent cases, too.

Used to put the empty brass in them for the ride home from the range. Now I use those mesh bags that are suppose to be for separating clothes that go in the washer. I have never done that, and don't know why there is a need to do that, nor do I want to know why people do that! Therefore, these cheapo mesh bags have worked great as brass bags. You can shake all the dirt and sand out of the cases with them too!
Feralmerril, I use the old sock on handguns when there are several in a gun case at one time to keep them from coming into contact with one another during transport should they move around in the case.

As a side note, I think I have found a Crown Royal bag with something in it in every single search warrant I have done in the past 27 years.

Feral, you sure your daddy lived in Wisconsin, not Kentucky? Every one I know keeps his handguns in old cotton socks. Its a state storage requirement here! Its even fun at the gunshows to watch the other guys unload their wares on tables, and the pile of old socks on the nearest chair. Looks like its laundry day.
On the Lee issue.....I bought a ratty old 4th model 44 from him in January. Of course I had to travel downstate to pick it up because we did the transaction in Ohio. When I got there to get the gun, it was in the gun rug he furnished. But inside the rug was the gun in a Crown Royal bag. I assume that its his packing system. That or he drinks a lot of the stuff at home.

I used to buy those little bitty bottles of crown on payday. Those and a pack of non-filtered camels. The old woman that ran the liquor store would give you a dollar for the bag if you wanted to sell it. She said that she undone the stitching and made pillow cases with them. I have kept mine, large and small. I use them for my golf clubs, and to carry .22 and .25 ammo when I'm plinking or hunting. Makes me want a shot or two.
Peace,
gordon

Personally I find the Captain Morgans Private Stock bags superior to the Crown Royal bags.

I've got a bunch of them....mostly, i keep my shooting/safety glasses in them. I keep one in the console of the car...loaded with change. Sometimes if I'm feeling too lazy to put ammo into plastic ammo boxes I'll just load up a Crown bag with it.

I keep all my revolvers in Crown bags and also use them for keeping any change I get when paying cash for something. My wife is the Crown Royal drinker. I prefer a good Scotch or Vodka but sometimes drink hers just to be a PITA. It goes without saying that we have a more than adequate supply of these bags.

I heard that old hippies drank Dago Red out of bottles wrapped in a brown paper bag. Do they store their handguns in brown paper bags? Just a thought. LOL.

I use them to store mags in (4-5 mags fit nicely0, use the small ones to put spare cylinders in, and have a couple stuffed with small parts for different guns in my shooting box. If I put metal in them, hey get a generous spray of G-96 gun oil and go to work for me.

I store guns in them, use them for range ammo. Another good use is for waxing my guns. I use the outside of the bag to apply the wax, then turn it inside out to polish it.

Bore store seems like a better choice.
Any cotton sack will absorb moisture and dries slowly. Not the best choice for keeping something dry.
Pretty much why they came up with different materials for bikers, hikers & joggers. Cotton just doesn't wick.
My last Blanton's bag went to my son. He keeps his bottle cap collection in it.

I keep a small digital camera inside of a Royal Crown bag and then put it inside a Pelican waterproof case; it is always on my ATV while in the woods.

I saved the bags for years and planned on having a battle flag made out of them for my sailboat, (which was named "Comfortably Numb" - it's a Pink Floyd thing), but sold the boat before I got the flag made. )o; Still like a little Crown on the rocks or neat with a water back once an a while. Very smooooth!

I loved doublesharp's answer way back on Post #4: everytime a Crown Royal bag shows up in a case handled by anyone in my office, there was drugs in it. Seems like a good way to grab the attention of any thief who might see it . . . .

Never ran across that as of yet.
But a 35mm film cannister in open view seldom has film inside.
I use my Crown bags to store loose change and small tools.

A little old lady that lives in my dad's building has a unique use for her CR bag. When she walks her dog the plastic bag of poo goes into the CR bag. She thinks it is more dignified that way. About a year ago some lowlife ripped the CR bag out out of her hands and ran. Would have liked to see the look on his face when opened the bag....bet I know what he said. (o;

Wow, this thread sure came back from the past. And like a fool, I didn't bother to notice its going on 5 years old.
But I saw 2 things that I feel need comments on. The poster "Oldman" was talking about 35mm film cans. Anybody remember what film was? Or when was the last time you saw it for sale in a drug store?
And I sure hope Feral washes his old cotton socks before the stores his guns in them. Kind of nasty imagining his beautiful old guns in a smelly old sock.
As I said earlier in this thread, I once bought a gun from Lee and when I went to do the paperwork, the gun was in a CR bag. I've eaten supper with him in the past, and he didn't even drink a sociable beer with us. I tend to doubt he swills CR on the sly. But then you never know.

Do not drink much crown, but have a few my grandfather left me. I like them as the say Seagrams Crown Royal, I think the new ones do not have that logo on them. Never used them for guns, but they make great reel covers.

I don't drink Crown (prefer Chivas) but since I have friends who own a bar & grill have ended up with quite a few of those handy little bags. Store guns, mags, pocket knives and coins in them. Keeps stuff together and allows me to pack things tight in the safe (plus it looks a little better than old socks too, lol).

OMG, got me too! I guess I'd better go back and delete my "I'm in".
Good thing the date wasn't a snake,huh?
Maybe Lee should start a "Hall of Shame" sticky to place all the knuckle headed boo boos in.
