Any Chance on getting an AR before bans?
I am looking to buy a NEW, Scar 17S.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any idea what they sell for? Also, is there any chance on getting one before the "bans"?
Or if a Scar is not possible, anyone know of a business that has a AR .308 platform in stock?
Thanks guys!

Have you checked a local gun store? Some are probably still taking orders. In stock? Good luck.

Scar 17s are available on Gunbroker for about $4500. Mags are going for around $150 - $200. There seem to be fewer available in the last few days than there were previously. I bought a new one in May for $2900 and got six mags from Midway for $34 each.

"Ask' prices and prices they actually sell for are two different things right now. Someone posted a Scar from gun broker earlier that had a last bid of $6,500 and it hadn't hit the reserve. The market is pretty fragmented right now...the old days of gun prices clustering around a "mean" are over for a while. Once things settle down and inventories are replenished and the fainting goats quit panicking you'll see store shelves restock and prices begin to drift lower.
I saw a pair of them at my LGS for around $2k each the week the panic started. Thought about it...but in my mind I didn't even want to pay that much for one.

Thanks Guys. I have wanted a Scar 17s forever. I believe normal retail list is $2500-$2900, but I may be off.
Looks like I probably will not be able to get one. Not at the prices they are selling for now especially. This is crazy.

Yeah...but crazy times come and go. I don't think they'll have the votes to ban semi-auto rifles...nor 30 round mags.
If I'm right then you should see prices drift back toward normal a year or so after the issue fades.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Sad how the innocent people get rooked all the way around.
I hope that this mess passes and I have an opportunity to get one. Does anyone know what the normal retail selling price is of a brand new 17S (normal circumstances, not now with all the heat)
Thanks!!

I don't see a Federal ban in the near future, but some states could be acting. The gun haters are stirred up.
Most likely it will blow over in a few months and then the folks that decided they wanted one when they couldn't get one will decide if they still want one. likely after that things will get "normal" whatever that is. They were starting to get in short supply before the craziness and I predict they will continue to be. I don't look for folks to be dumping them wholesale. Last I heard Magpul 30 round pMags had over a 1,000,000 backorder. I saw a pawnshop recently advertising new AR-15s and most of the gun stores have some 5.56 ammo available, but it is 50-75¢ a round, not 30-35¢ like before. It is really hard to find good buys on ammo now for any caliber.

Normal selling price before the rush was about $2700 - $3000. I believe the poster above is mistaken; I have never seen even a used one for $2000. I am not so sure these will be available in the future even if ban efforts fail. FN may decide the potential adverse publicity is not worth it for something that has to be of minimal impact on their bottom line.

Don't assume the worst. A ban isn't a given.

Not to worry OP...if the supply of AR type rifles dries up, you have the opportunity to add to your profile a military service badge. Join up and you will have access to all the AR's you can handle.

LOL. I don't think the Military would want a guy in his 40's to join.

Other than NY and other benighted areas of the USA, I don't think that there will be a Federal ban on any domestically produced semi autos. The Republicans have the US House of Representatives at least until 2015 (January) and there are enough Democrats in both houses that know exactly what their political fate will be should they attempt a ban, so I doubt it will happen at the Federal level. The Executive can ban importation of anything through BATF, ICE, and Commerce, but whether they will or not is up in the air. The states are another matter, as "Emperor Cumo II" in NY has demonstrated. Whether right-or should I say correct-thinking citizens will comply will be the test of those initiatives.

This is the absolute worst time to be buying guns or ammunition. The Congre$$ Critter$ lack the courage to vote for gun bans, they like their six-figure jobs, medical benefits, one-term retirement, etc. too much.
Just hang loose for a while and the prices should come back down.

Yep, I am gonna be patient and wait for this all to die down some. Then I will try to get the 17s at a decent price.

Local range had 1 Windam Weaponry and 3 Ilion Bushmaster's just come in. All for the low price of $1,799 + tax. I guarantee that all 4 will be sold by this weekend, I can't believe that even in this panic people are willing to buy an $8-900 rifle for double. Tis crazy.
While I don't believe any laws will be passed, do not lull yourselves into a false sense of security because the House is in Republican hands. They care about themselves and their jobs over anything else and will cave on gun issues just as quickly as they have with fiscal issues. Also, the King will not be happy if he doesn't get his way.
