Need a raccoon skin, making a "Possibles" bag (pic)....

Anyone out there have a raccoon skin they aren't using? I'm making a "Possibles" bag for my .50 caliber black powder rifle, using this leather "Hippy" purse as a start:

I'm going to replace the back and front flap with raccoon skin, with the tail on. Then I'll make some longer carry straps from an old leather belt.

So, if you have a raccon skin with the tail on, shoot me a PM with a price. I also have some lead ingots or 45/70 bullets to trade. I'd hate to go to a rendevous and have my possibles bag mistaken for a purse.....

Roadkill was the first thing I thought, too. What are the laws/rules about picking up roadkill? Preferably for skinnin', but ya never know when ya might get hungry, too. ;)

You might do better to leave the existing flap and back and sew or lace the fur pieces to them. They will need backing of some kind.

I use to have one with a wolf's face sewed onto a beaver tail flap until wolves became an protected species.
 
I have a possum that's been digging in the back yard if you are interested in that. He's a big one, and nice looking for a possum, but he'll have nine 00 size holes in his hide....

As 5-Shot mentioned Road Kill is a possible source for you possibles.

You might consider a full face mount in the style of some sporrans worn by men in kilts. A possibles bag would be large enough to have the full face and the two front paws coming over the top.

Quick search found some good picture of raccoon sporrans being sold by a KENTUCKY company.

Or maybe just paint those flowers, add some beads and braided hemp and let your freak flag fly!

You may be right, perhaps Mountain Men at Rendezvous need to be more inclusive, embrace all black powder rifle shooters....

Get in touch with the Hippy, Rainbow Family type rifle person....

Naah, I'm holding out for raccoon skin!
