I found the first season of Police Story on dvd at Barnes & Noble the other day. I had forgotten how good it really was and especially when compared to the **** on tv now. there was some pretty big name actors in it. so far Vic Morrow has been in two of them and unfortunately he never survived the twilight zone movie

And I really wish they'd release the 5 episodes they re-made in 1988 including Monster Manor. Great stuff. Amazon has one (The Watch Commander) that you can download and watch.

I also have it and hope they release more seasons, I really like the Dandy Don and Tony Lo Bianco pairing. I have read a lot of Joseph Wambaugh books and they are great.

It was shows like Police Story and Adam 12 that made me become interested in becoming a Police Officer when I grew up. I watched them religiously as a young teenager.

Most TV is ****.....

Most TV is **** but a small percentage has great story, writing, casting, production, direction and everything else that makes a great show. I like being able to pick and chose the old TV shows that I really like.

A slightly different subject but does anybody else miss anthology shows that had a new cast every week?

I liked those stories a lot. From the perspective of a young police officer in the late 60s and 70s I thought they were the most realistic of all the cop shows.

Actually, Adam 12 wasn't bad, though the good guys always won and they had a lot more rules and speed bumps than our department did.

Dragnet, otoh, though I liked Jack Webb, was a bit much. The best thing about it was Webb's rocket-speed delivery in his speeches to witnesses and suspects.

Shows like "Police Story" and "Adam 12" heavily influenced my decision to start my 30 year career as a police officer. The cops in those shows were portrayed as normal human beings and not the psycho, crooked caricatures portrayed in todays shows. I miss those old shows.
