I haven't purchsed a non-S&W revolver for a while. I thought it was as good a time as any to break my S&W streak. I still have a strange attraction to the 44 Magnum, though..

Freedom Arms Model 83, 6" barrel, 44 Magnum. Optional Tan Micarta grips....

Wasn't a planned purchase but the unusual grain to the grips put me over the edge!!

Wow that's a beauty there Inspector! Those Freedom Arms are the Cadillac of SA's. Enjoy!

VERY nice. Here is my 'distant cousin' a Security Industries 2" J frame size SB .357. Has original box, papers, and warranty card.

I wish I had bought a .44 as opposed to the .454. The .454 is more than I need and I have to put Pachmyer grips on to keep the recoil under control. The tolerances on FA revolvers are simply amazing.

The .44 may not be as bad but my youngest son bought one of those in .454 at one gun show and sold it at the next. Youngest shot it twice and put it down and oldest shot it once, put on his shooting glove and shot the other 2 or 3 (don't remember if the cylinder held 5 or 6) then he put it down.
Beautiful and well made pistol, just hurt too much. Hopefully in .44 mag it will be like the Blackhawks and be tolerable.

I had the same problem with a short model 29 and hot loads. After 12 shots my hand was bloody.

I actually have a 7.5 inch FA454 as well and the beauty of that gun is that you can buy the other cylinders and shoot either 45Colt or 45ACP and get all the accuracy that's build into the gun without the expense and recoil of the Casull round if you don't need it. A buddy has both cylinders and it's a pussycat with the 45ACP. Funny story with that was that he ORDERED the 45ACP clyinder and they accidentally sent him a 45Colt, and when they discovered their oversight, they had to let him keep the 45ACP because it's line bored to the gun and will not fit another. Now he has BOTH!

The other option that I use is to download the 454Casull round so its not an absolute MAX load. MUCH more comfortable for paper punching.

Same comment as above with the alternate cylinders for the 454. Actually, I fired some American Eagle 240gr JHP's in this gun and they are quite STOUT. I will most likely do most of my shooting with a handload of about 9 grains of Unique and a 240gr LSWC. That'll do about 99% of I want that gun to do...

Actually I bought my .454 when it was a handload only proposition and a friend bought me dies to load for his FA M-83. His was a standard version that came with rubber grips. I insisted on trying the loads before letting him try his new gun. After using the Premier Grade slick stocks during two shooting sessions and coming away with bleeding in the web between my thumb and index finger I bought the Pachs.

Then I realized that I had components for and was already feeding three .44 Mag revolvers, and that I really did not need the power of a .454 to down feral hogs.

Freedom Arms revolvers are beautiful and extremely well made. I just should have stayed with the .44 caliber I was set up for to begin with. Mine comes out of the safe to impress folks and occasionally to make a point at the range.

Never heard of that brand.

I had this a 2 1/2" model that I sold and next day a 2" came along. They were made in 1970's for 2-3 years. Early ones, this is #36X, were as good as anything out there. Tough for a small company going against the big boys though.

Sweet it looks like a Ruger Superblackhawk. If it fires like one your good:)

The FAs look like the Ruger Super Balckhawks, but are five shot, with a Colt type half-cock to load. There is also no transfer bar safety, so you should carry a FA on an empty chamber.

The machining tolerances between my FA M-83 and Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley are not even comparable. Look at the pictures.

The Ruger is a good Chevy, the FA is a Rolls Royce.
