Anything else going on in there besides cheesecake?

S&S CHEESECAKE
222 W. 238th St., Bronx; (718) 549-3888
Behind a brick wall in an otherwise unspectacular building in the Kingsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx sits the most famous cheesecake factory in the city. Yes, Junior’s is legendary, but for more than 60 years, real New Yorkers have gotten their cheesecake fix from S&S, where visitors ring a bell to gain entrance and the cakes are sold right out of the kitchen by owner/baker/manager Yair Ben-Zaken. The secret to their product, which costs $13 for a plain cake, is in the cheesecake’s consistency (not too creamy) and vanilla flavor (not too sweet). Crust-lovers might be disappointed by the thin crust, but S&S cheesecakes are for those who desire a traditional dense filling. Don’t have time to head up to the Bronx? S&S cheesecakes can be bought online or at a handful of Manhattan steakhouses, like The Palm and Morton’s.
