To salt to NOT to salt, that is the question (for those who love eating watermelons)
So what's your favorite way of eating watermelon? with or without salt? I like mine with and without--but prefer with.
Reason im asking (ESPECIALLY for those who live in Texas) I just went through two mid-sized "seedless" melonsin a week. This newest crop we are getting from here doesnt come from the Valley--but from the Poteet area--also famed for their Strawberries. These are some fo the sweetest ive had in years-and yes--I eat the seeds too.
PS, anxiously awaiting for the Figs to start coming in.

Absolutely, positively, irrefutably I cannot eat watermelon, sweet or not, without salt. You hereby have my vote.

Salt, definitely. Same for grapefruit.
Sweet and salt go together like well....peanut butter and jelly.

No salt here but a little, (or Lot) of some good shine works wonders.

My preference for eating watermelon is definitely with salt. Strange what we get used to isn't it.

Lightly salted. For cantaloupe, salt and fresh-ground black pepper.

SALT???
Do you put the salt on before or after you pour the rum over the watermelon?
Salt & rum? Maybe if you pour tequila on your melon....
Nahhhhhhhh - I'm sticking with rum.

Didn't get a lot of salt growing up. Mom had high blood pressure and salt was a no no so, we didn't get it either. As a result, the only things I like salt on are popcorn and ANY form of potato.......fries, chips, baked or whatever.
I like my watermelon fresh and unsalted.

Salt & Pepper on cantaloupe, sugar on grapefruit (except grapefruit is currently off of my diet). Never tried salt on watermelon but am willing to give it a try.

Does anyone but me think seedless watermelons, while tasty, aren't as sweet as the ones with seeds?
Trouble is finding the seeded ones these days.

I tried it once and saw no reason to try it twice. Neither my wife nor I salt our food and find most restaurant fare too salty. In the mountain west I have seen around 5% or less of people at a bbq looking for salt with watermelon.

Growing up we always put a little salt on cantaloupe and honeydews. Why we never thought to put it on watermelon beats me.
My favorite as a youngster was and still is Lay's chips on PB&J.

I never liked watermelon much (or cantelope ) - loaded with sugar - another cheap fruit to fatten up the peeps in the name of "healthy fruits" - stick to berries.
OK - when I did eat it I put salt & pepper on it - even as a kid.

Maybe these seedless melons need salt, but real water melons have seeds and taste much better, and salt ruins the flavor.

I would say I use to use no salt on watermelon, actually a product called No Salt. It gives your food a nice chemical flavor...I gave up on that stuff, & I'm currently using a product by Morton called Lite Salt, which has 50% less sodium than regular salt & actually tastes pretty decent. Had some on a chunk of watermelon this evening.

SALT/NO SALT
I never was a huge salt fan to begin with. High B/P has made me have to cut down further. Now I realize there is plenty there already in just about anything prepared. the less you use it the better you can taste it. Like sugar you keep using more and more. As for watermelon a nice sweet/cold melon on a hot day is hard to beat. If you want to salt it, knock yourself out, just PLEASE don't salt the whole dam thing.
