Default N.Y. To Ban Salt In Restaurants

Yep. Bill A. 01129 by Felix Ortiz (D) would ban the use of salt in preparing food in NY restaurants. That state is swimming in corruption scandals, the country has massive unemployment, and we're on the verge of killing the economy with socialized healthcare, and this is the stuff they consider important.

Grits and peas just ain't no 'count unless they are cooked with salt. If you don't use salt when you cook them, you cain't never add enough!

Do they eat grits in NYC?

Someone may correct me, but isn't it New York City that made up a bunch of pamphlets advising heroin users how to re-use their needles safely? Makes sense to me.

No, they don't. And if you could get them to fix some for you, you wouldn't want to eat them, either.

So, anyone got a holster recommendation for deep concealment of a salt shaker?

Wow. And NYC is home to some of the best restaurants in the world...
it's absurd of course. But I just don't see it happening.
Who do you think the "Salt Police" will be? Maybe it could be a new job for some of the food critics. It could start a whole other branch of corruption in itself. The restaurants could pay the Food Critic Salt Police to look the other way and get a good review!

My dad would salt everything to where it looked like a snow field. It might have been what killed him at 90.

Obama just appointed Charlie Tuna as Salt Czar. Any chef caught using salt will be sent to, you guessed it. The salt mines.

Default No Salt

No Salt NY is an excellent idea.
Salt is necessary for body functions and, we get most of it from foods we eat. Excesses of salt Blood Pressure and, Hardning of the Arteries.
There is NO SALT SHAKER at our house in Virginia. We use salt only on sidewalks and, driveway.

I'm sorry, but who the heck are you to dictate how someone else lives? Salt in moderation is not a health issue.

I bought some low sodium foods, and guess what there was in a large proportion - potassium. When are "they" going to figure out that's no good either.

Quit trying to control my life already.

You have to wonder if the next move would be to outlaw sales of salt in stores - pretty soon you'd have people selling salt "under the table" complete idiots!!!!

The state that banned firecrackers, sparklers, strike-any-where matches and lead fishing sinkers will now take on that evil compound salt.
Somehow it seems to fit right in.

If it's so bad,,then they should ban it. But they better ban tobacco and alcohol before they ban salt if that's the case.

Perhaps a salt tax is a possibility is this cash strapped state. After all, those other substances are allowed to be sold and used as long as the gov't profits from the tax money.
They must not be as bad as they say they are as long as they can be taxed.

Better yet they should just leave us the hell alone.

Clearly, that Ortiz feller ain't worth his salary.

The word salary is derived from the word salarium, (IIRC) which is also the Latin word for salt.

That is where the old saying "he isn't worth his salt" comes from.

That there boy ain't worth his salt.

That feller that came up with this is an absolute idiot.

When I lived in NY I went to Ohio for the fireworks, Connecticut for the lobsters and clams, Pennsylvania for some deer hunting, Canada for the high test booze; I guess I would have had to add a trip to Massachusetts for the ol salt.
And people ask me why I moved from my home (I do miss the place dearly- not the bull **** though).

Gee, I wonder why.

Btw, eating grits in NY is like eating pizza in the deep south.

Try baking bread without salt. Not good.

Salt intake as a cause of high blood pressure has been pretty much debunked.

I can't say for sure. But the doc tells me, salt is bad if you have high BP. But it will not give you high BP.

In any case, who cares? It is not the Govs job to 'protect' me from the evils of salt, or tobacco, or trans fats, or whatever.

It's not our fault that NY'ers don't make pizza the way we like it.

It also criminal down here to eat fried chicken with a fork.

Thanks for the clarification. I agree on the government part.

Btw, eating grits in NY is like eating pizza in the deep south.
Now wait just a minute there! We've got a feller here in Tulsa that came down from Brooklyn just to make us pizza! His is three times better than anything I've eaten in Manhattan.

'Course, about the only way I'd eat grits in NY is if redlevel came up and made them for me.

Transplants excluded.

Besides everyone who lives or ever lived in the City knows the best pizza comes from Brooklyn or Da Bronx.

Who the hell eats fried chicken with a fork? If you're implying NY'ers do, you're dead wrong. I never saw a NY'er, or anyone for that matter, eating fried chicken with a fork !!

The only vice I have is mustard on a hamburger. I'll take mine with ketchup please. We use mustard for hotdogs and hot pretzles.

Back on topic. This retard Ortiz will never get his asinine idea to fly. The only thing I can see NY doing with his idea, is placing a tax on salt. Hell, they're going to do it with soda. It's bad for the kids so we'll place a special tax on it.

I live in the "suburbs" and believe me. We certainly dont have a shortage of idiotic politicians with idiotic ideas. The City just seems to come up with more of them.

Tom, that just might have something to do with their constituency.

Do they eat grits in NYC?

No, they don't. And if you could get them to fix some for you, you wouldn't want to eat them, either.
I'll bet there are a few folks living uptown that would disagree with that statement.

Anyway, I'm stocking up on Hi-cap shakers so I'll be set when the big "shake up" takes place.
