Looking at potentially picking up this Marlin 336SC. A quick Google search says they were made 1949-1963. Doing a trade. What is the value of this rifle?

I paid $625 for this one last October. It was made in 1949. It has the "waffle top" receiver, referring to the wavy line matting and is not drilled for scope mounts. I believe this feature was discontinued after just a couple of years, I'm not a Marlin collector so don't quote me on that. The one in your pic looks a little later based on the white spacer at the buttplate. Looks like nice wood too. The value of the JM marked Marlins shot up after Marlin Firearms Co. went away. On the other hand they made a ton of them, not a rare piece by any stretch so condition is paramount. A lot of them were hunted hard for decades and show it, yours looks to be in really nice condition. I believe the .35 Remington chambering may be a little more desirable. Mine is 30/30 Win chambering. Great rifles, all walnut and steel, built like a tank. Post some pics if you bring it home.PXL_20241025_231930610.jpgPXL_20241025_232004807.jpg

I really like this sling swivels, and the aperture rear sight. Pretty wood. Cash, no paperwork, I’d go as high as $900.

Hornady FLX 165s shoot 3 shots, occasionally, an inch at 100 in my ‘70s 336T. Great old guns. Lots of character. They’ll never make em like that again.

The guy said that it was an early one before they were drilled and tapped. So, according to what I’ve seen online, it has to be 1952 or earlier.

Whatever it's worth add about $100.00 for that peep rear sight. Period correct, might be a Lyman. Very nice set up. I use a globe front with mine.
I actually take a lot off value. Receiver will show "damage" where it was mounted. I'd want it with no peep and no marks.
