Talking Tom Selleck's best Roles.....

Tom Selleck is not one of my favorite actors, but I like his work OK. However, he had two roles that were absolutely first rate.

No doubt the best character he ever played was Lance White as a guest star on the Rockford files. He kept me in stitches the who program long. This was certainly his best performance as a comedic/dramatic actor also. It was also some of the very best series of the Rockford files which may well be the best thing James Garner ever did. I say that as a big James Garner fan.

The second best role was that of Jessie Stone in the eight made for TV movies where he played a police officer. This was by far his best performance as a purely dramatic actor, and if you have not seen these movies, I highly recommend them.

I like him best in Blue Bloods, now also in re-runs on ION network.

He acted well as Jessie Stone, but the whole town and most of the cast was depressing, much more so than in Robt. B. Parker's books. No one but maybe Selleck looked like I thought they would.

Quigley Down Under is pretty good. But one of my favorites of his
is Monte Walsh. Which of course is the 2nd version that I know of
after the Lee Marvin?? version of the 70's. Think it was Lee Marvin
anyway..
But I think I actually like the newer Selleck version a bit better I
think.. Both are pretty good I suppose.

Jesse Stone. Good representation of how to carry and use a 1911 pistol. Plus, a good representation of the dangers and depression involved in excess alcohol consumption.

His best role was the Rosie O'Donnell show. It pretty much got the (supply your own word) show taken off the air.

He is and always will be associated with his most successful character and that is Magnum PI. Jesse Stone is good but Magnum is what put him on the map and made his career.

I liked him in "Last Stand at Sabre River" and "Crossfire Trail" in addition to "Quigley", "The Sacketts", "Monte Walsh" and "Jesse Stone" mentioned above. Really liked his role as Lance in the "Rockford Files".

I've liked him in most everything I've seen. I'll have to look for monte Walsh. I don't remover seeing him in The Rockford Files, which is a great show. I can't remember the title, but he played a post WWI airplane fighter ace that was decent. I haven't seen all the Jesse Stone movies, liked the ones I saw. Quilgly down under was good.

Never watched Blue Bloods, I've seen all the police shows I care to, especially those set in NY.

I can't think of anything Mr Selleck has done that I didn't like. Not mentioned yet was "Crossfire Trail". I liked that one. Western scenery, horses, guns and humor! Mr. Selleck also helps on the Second Amendment. I try to never miss "Blue bloods". He does a great job on that show as does the rest of the cast. I wish I looked as good at his age as he does.

I've liked all his movies/appearances that I've seen. A movie that has not yet been mentioned is: Three Men and a Baby(comedy), starring Selleck, Ted Danson, and a guy who played in Police Academy I (can't think of his name). I don't care for Danson, but it was an entertaining movie.

He's very good in Blue Bloods (only time I watch CBS) and I loved Quigley Down Under - love the ending where he says, "never said I didn't know how to use one - just said I never had much need for one". I am also guilty of watching Magnum PI when it was originally aired.

Almost got to meet him on the set in Hawaii back in 1981 but he was delayed and we had to catch a flight. My wife was a whole lot more disappointed than I was but they did give us an autographed photo.

I enjoyed Magnum and watch Quigley a couple times a year, though that may be as much for Laura San Giacomo as Tom Selleck. However at the risk of getting banned I think his best acting was in the movie In and Out.

I really like him. My faves in order would be:
1. Matthew Quigley
2. Thomas Magnum
3. Jesse Stone

He is a very versatile actor he can do the action rolls like Quigley, the Lighter rolls with action and humor like Magnum, are the dark brooding and moody rolls like Stone, and he can do them all as well as anyone.

He is totally believable in western clothes and settings as well and modern big city settings in a police uniform. He can do it all.

Wow...I have always enjoyed Tom Selleck. I always enjoyed Magnum P.I. until seeing it in reruns. To me it is really campy and has really mediocre acting and even make-up. I guess for its day, we all thought it great. I really enjoy his Westerns ad Quigly is fantastic. My Fiance' and I have spent many great evenings just watching the Jessie Stone series. Probably our favorite though we never miss Blue Bloods. We tape them all and have all the Jessie Stone Series...I hope he gets the funding and there is a Final/another one

Last Stand at Saber River... a made for TV movie (based on a book by the late Elmore Leonard, the original producer for the TV series, Justified).

I liked Selleck in that movie... not so much for his acting... but all of the tack and gear that was used, including clothing... was immediate post-war-of-northern-aggression period-correct.

Also liked him in Crossfire Trail... along with fella actor, Willford Brimley. Based on a book by Louis L'Amour.

I'd have to chalk up Crossfire Trail as my favorite. Not necessarily his best acting, but best movie IMO. Quigley wasn't too shabby either.

I don't think too many people saw it, but he played Eisenhower in a made-for-TV movie about the run-up to the Normandy invasion. He was very good indeed as Ike, and the Brit who played Montgomery (he probably has made a living doing it for some time) absolutely nailed it.

Selleck's performance was thoughtful, and caught the strain Ike was under as D-Day approached and the decision to go had to be made. He's more versatile than some critics give him credit for.

"Nobody's that fast." Bang. -Thomas Magnum
"This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickok." Bang, bang, bang. -Matthew Quigley

He's had good lines just before he kills the bad guys.

Probably our favorite though we never miss Blue Bloods. We tape them all and have all the Jessie Stone Series...I hope he gets the funding and there is a Final/another one
I admit--the 1st season was hokey and kinda boring but--as the show went on--it more than made upfor it. IMO--the best episode of the series was: Did you see the sunrise. I liked how he offed Ivan--at the end.

Though he lookes notig like Ike--his acting was spot on.

Since ive never seen any other Selleck tv series--ill still have to go with:Thomas Sullivan Magnum. And besides--what a cool last name.

Best movie as a Cop===the futuristic one--whose name I cant think of off-hand. He was good in Lassiter too.

The one where Gene Simmons was the bad guy.....****naway I think. The one movie I didn't much care for of his was Lassiter. Just didn't gel, if you know what I mean.

The Sellec movie with Gene Simmons was "Runaway" He did a good job but it was not a well written or well directed movie. Better behind the scenes talent could have made a huge difference. Sellec and Simmons have the talent.

His rolls as Mathew Quigley and Jesse Stone are my favorites, but I can watch just about anything he is in. Anyone remember the movie Runaway he did with Kirsty Alley and Gene Simmons where he plays a detective chasing Gene Simmons as the bad guy. Really liked that one!
