The baloney thread mentioned sweet pickles and if got me thinking. Can anybody buy Heinz sweet gherkins in this country anywhere?

They have disappeared in NJ and I have not found a suitable substitute.

Any recommendations for a good sweet gherkin or a place who still sells Heinz.

see if Heinz doesn't have a website which might have a Q&A section... & receive a answer in your email later, if they don't have someone on line during normal business hours to chat on line to respond to customers questions. They may even have a phone # you could call. You'd think those would be a good item to keep in their in their inventory.

We buy Mt. Olive sweet bread and butter chips and gherkins at Walmart. You might try Vlasic as well. We've had them in the past, and like them too.

Mt. Olive sweet midget pickles are very close to Heinz in taste and I believe they are in just about all Walmart stores. Even here, 50 miles from Pittsburgh, Heinz Gherkin pickles can be tough to find.

If you can find them try Wickles. They are sweet pickles with hot peppers. Sweet and spicy at the same time.

Just about my favorite these days. They make a relish that's pretty good too.

Now back in the days, my Great Granny made the best durn home made bread and butter pickles I ever ate. We called them granny pickles. I still can't eat commercial bread and butter pickles. They just don't hold a candle to granny pickles.

Mt. Olive here. Tried some off brand "sweet" pickles once that couldn't make up their mind about being sweet or dill. God awful taste. Maybe that's why Aunt Bea's pickles tasted so bad.

Around here, Gedney's is the baseline against which all else is measured. They are available almost everywhere. I'll have some read and butter pickles or slice up some gherkins for a sandwich, but for just eatin', I like a half dill, preferably out of a fizzy brine. Gedney's doesn't offer anything like that. No slices, whole pickle only. It ruins a good pickle to slice it, lets the flavor out.

I don't know who decided who wanted a dill pickle on everything, especially my Chic Fil A!

I like dills. But I don't have the power to decree that anyone else does.

I do like Chic-Fil-A, though. One of the best fast food places.

I second the motion made above that the OP call the pickle maker he likes and see who in his area has what he likes. Worth a try...

I'm going to do that to find a better selection of the Swiss brand jams and preserves, Hero. If I have to, I'll call the Swiss Embassy and ask them.

I have to shop three stores here to find all varities of the British brand teas I prefer, Twining's and Taylor's of Harrogate. Just one local store carries Taylor's. Thankfully, both brands sell on the Net in the USA. But I hate to have to order by mail, when I should be able to buy things at my grocer.

I make some good ones, have not had a garden in 2 years, will have next year. Bread and butter, dill, I make them all, nice, get compliments but my best ones pale to my Mom's canned ones.

I have tried several sweet pickles from the store, cheap brands need to be left in the store.....

Now that you mention it I hve not seen Heinz for a while...
