NHL STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS 2017
Welcome to the fun thread, where nobody knows what they are talking about.
This will be the 10th year we have some fun at the S&W forum regarding good old hockey.
All those that participated in the past were nothing but great fans of hockey, whether their teams made it to the finals or not.
Mild digging here and there in good taste, but nothing nasty at all.
I hope some of you guys show up again.
Newcomers who are hockey fans please join us, and the lurking NHL crowd jump in and have some fun.
Pick your team, and see why this is the most difficult trophy to win in all sports.
Let's get ready and drop the puck at the S&W Forum.
The playoffs start on Wednesday April 12th.
PS: The Bruins actually made the playoffs this year.
GO BRUINS

It feels like we were just doing this a few weeks ago...
The Pens are pretty beat up this year, and limping into the playoffs. Losing Letang's 30+ min a night will hurt.
The road looks like Columbus, then Washington. Tough haul.
LET'S GO PENS!!!

The Wild are in after a good season, only slipping to second behind the Hawks in the final weeks. The opening series with the Blues figures to be another great one.

The last couple of weeks of the regular season gave us some pretty good hockey. It's a whole new season now and that presidents trophy doesn't mean very much. A great team can choke and a team that just squeaked in can go the distance. Those of us that have been around the sport long enough have seen it happen many times. I sure hope those Leafs crush the Caps.

I'm really hoping the Oilers make it deep into the playoffs. Too bad about the Wings though. The playoffs won't be the same without them. I sure hope Strato joins us anyway.

Great to be back in the playoff season with you guys.
Good luck to your favorite teams, but in the end it will be the Black Hawks taking the Cup.
Go Hawks!!

I'm gonna try this.
I have plenty of compressed air and foam fingers. I am soliciting retainers from Senór Worm and Bigride as my one-man cheering section can be had for a song (you pick the song...sorry, no Free Bird...Gotta have some principles left.)
A newbie question: what do you do with the ice when the tractor pull comes to town?
Go Reds!!!

Well, the Blues already have a song for you.
But last time I had a foam finger, I got into big trouble. Apparently, folks at the games are picky about which finger.

No updates on their injuries, Krug is getting around on crutches, not a good sign.
Krug has a bull dog named Fenway.

For the first time in 25 years, the Red Wings didn't make the playoffs. I support the team, and was sorry to see the streak come to an end, but the obvious truth is they played horribly and didn't deserve to be in the play offs. Hopefully, as some of their younger players mature, they will be able to come back, but it could be a couple of years the way they looked.
Good luck to the team of your choice!

I saw Krugs pooch on Behind the B. Cool dog. It's too bad he's out. He's sure a good guy to have on the power play. Replacing Carlo won't be as hard but he's coming along pretty well as a young defenseman.

I think most of us fans are going to miss seeing the red wheel in the playoffs, plus they will be playing in a new arena next year.
I remember when they closed the Boston Garden, I really do miss the old place.

I loved sitting in the front row of the balcony at center ice in the old Garden. The place had some history.

We have to start talking about what's on the menu for the first games. My goal is to keep it simple so I don't miss any hockey. Hockey fans always come up with some good game time eats. I'm going to start the opening night with some Chinese takeout.

My nephew sent me four Lou Malnati's Chicago deep dish sausage pizzas. Now if I could only find Old Style beer down here.
Really looking forward to Thursday night's game at the "Madhouse on Madison".

I had mixed feelings seeing the Wings playoff streak come to an end. On balance, I would rather that they just sit this one out than repeat last year's flop.
Now I'm free to root for whoever I want.
I used to live in St. Louis, so I'll be cheering for them.
The Hawks too.
I never really disliked the Pens (except in 2009) or the Sens, so here's hoping I can claim at least somebody I rooted for won.

Hmm my Islanders missed out by 1 lousy point. At least they made it interesting the last couple months. And finished the season with 6 wins in a row.
And my fav player #51 Frans Nielsen goes to the Wings and they miss the playoffs for the 1st time in forever!!!
Also, another if my favs, Kyle Okposo spent time in the neuro ICU. His illness was not made public. But he's been released from the hospital and I hope whatever is wrong will pass.
As for who to root for? Well I hope this is Ovie's year. Caps need some post season success already.

OK, so it's Wednesday at labworms and Thursday at Rustys. Sounds like a plan.

Well, my stinkin Flyers missed them this year so I can calmly watch the playoffs without worrying about throwing the remote through my flat screen.
I don't really care who wins, just as long as it isn't the Pens. I guess it would be nice to see the Craps finally win, but as in years past I don't think they'll get it done.
I have a feeling it'll be one of the Canadian teams that gets it done this year. They've got 5 teams in this year and God knows they're due.

Playoffs or not, still have to cheer on my Red Wings. I think they just wanted to stay home to watch the Joe Lewis pass into the sunset.

You mean they're actually doing the playoffs again? I figured since the WINGS didn't make it they would just scrap it this year. Still gotta eat though. My conversion of an offset smoker to gas turned out quite well so maybe some hockey baby back ribs or a brisket this year. Hmmm, now who to root for?

Lifelong Rangers fan here! I used to go to the playoff games in the late 60's when Giacomin, Gilbert, Hadfield and Ratelle were the big names on the team.
I'll be pulling for my team though I don't think they have as strong a shot as in recent years.
That said, no one can take June 14, 1994 away from us!

Boy are you old if you remember the GAG line, I remember and watched Boston's YUKE line, Johnny Bucyk, Vic Stasiuk and Bronco Horvath.

Says the kettle to the pot!
Some of my fondest memories from back in the day are the classic fights with guys like Orland Kurtenbach, Reggie Fleming and Vic Hadfield (from the Rangers) against the likes of John Ferguson, Ted Harris et al from the Canadiens who were our arch rivals back then. (As they are again in the upcoming series.)
It seemed like every time we played the Canadiens in the playoffs back then it was four and out.
Those teams of yesteryear will never fade from my memory...at least while I have a memory. (Not quite old enough, just yet, for a Medicare card...but it's coming before the year's out.)
Of course, it goes without saying that the Bruins and Flyers replaced the Canadiens a bit later on as the "most hated" teams the Rangers faced.

You might want to root for the Caps. Whatever you do don't root for the Bruins.

You guys are old. In my earliest hockey memories Bucyk was getting up there in age and that was early 70s. What is he, like 106 now.

He's only 81. He said he's ready if called upon. His legs should be fresh.
