IMAGINE A YEAR HAS PASSED.

Last year we had a lot of fun discussing the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Detroit fans and Pittsburgh fans were great to chat with.

Hopefully, this thread will get the same response as last year.

I'm from Boston, so this year we will be represented, for how long, I have no idea.

A lot of teams can pull it out this year for sure, Detroit, Washington, Boston, New Jersey, Pittsbrgh, but I am leaning towards San Jose.

So come on Hockey fans "Let's hit the ice.

Last year, I had a lot of confidence in Detroit.

This year, I've got my fingers crossed.

Let me say, up front, that most of this is to be heard as tongue in cheek. Never have cared for the game. In another life time, as a secondary English teacher, some nordic book editor would always come up with a sentence to diagram (that in itself dates me)that went some thing like, "John wore his rubbers home from hockey". Immediately that would arouse the lovely little teenagers, that you had finally gotten under control, to a riot at the hearing of a sexual hint coupled with a scatalogical reference.

Then KMOX gets the Blues back under contract and knocks off Don Wolff's great, Saturday night blues radio program. that's another strike.

Well, The Blues haven't been making it to the playoffs. This year I wait to hear the tidings that St. Louis didn't make the magic number of points. Alas, they do. This leaves me to take out my wrath by listening to the Cards, who used to be the real sugar stick of St. Louis radio. Then Carpenter almost throws a no-hitter and then back to the DL. There ain't no justice.

I hope you guys get your fill of that foolishness. Meanwhile, I'll try to figure out how St. Lo scored 86 points to get to a playoff that will last as long as the season or longer.

The Wings have been laying back and lost a few at the end, Trying to avoid late season injuries. I hope they didn't pick up any bad habits.John

Right up front: I am a serious Sharks fan. And this year, happily, they have a very strong team. I like their chances a lot.

The Sharks' first-round series in fact may be the toughest: San Jose and Anaheim are bitter division and West Coast rivals, and despise each other; every game tends to be a blood-letting. I expect this series to be no different. But I think the Sharks will do in Anaheim in five or six games.

San Jose also has convincingly handled Boston and Pittsburgh this year, and has split with Detroit. Also, keep an eye on Chicago.

But I think the Sharks will nail the Stanley Cup this time around.

Bill. You sure are right about the Sharks and Ducks, tough series.

I will be watching Philadelphia and Pittsburgh this evening, very similar series.

Tomorrow evening, Bruins and Canadians, talk about a rivalry.

It's nice to see enough hocky fans to carry a thread . It looks like it's going to be a good playoffs as several teams look really good. I sure hope my Bruins go till June.

Ah, our Boston Bruins. As long as they don't repeat their historical ranking in the play offs we should be OK.

Well having been born in Detroit I hope the wings pull it off. It seems hockey is the only game Detroit is good at. The Lions have been letting me down for years!!!

Canes all the way! Repeat of the '06 Cup would be sweet!

Hopefully that abysmal performance tonight is not a sign of things to come.

Bruins should get by The Habs. Nothing comes easy for the Bruins, though. An amazing work ethic on that team for generations. Chara will be very busy.

At the Boston Garden I watched Terry Sawchuk in goal for Detroit, so I've been a hockey fan for many moons.

The Bruins should wipe out the Canadians, but when them frenchmen put on that jersey sometimes strange things happen. I hope not but just looking at history.

Since my Stars are out, I'm pulling for the Blues, but I'd have to pick San Jose and Pittsburgh in the finals. Of course, NO ONE can guess what will happen in the playoffs.

As you know, when the Frenchmen put on the jersey... the referees do strange things. The Canadians have always had the "home ice" advantage.

Yep, that was me. I grew up in Boston in the late 60's early 70's and remember the last time Boston won the cup very well. We used to go to a game now and then but always watched on tv.

On paper the Bruins should take the Canadians in 4 games maybe 5 but they have a way of winning series when they souldn't. I have high hopes but am not holding my breath.

Already one big surprise last night, the New York Rangers won.

By the way, where are the Ranger and Penguin fans? Time to start posting.

Time to put on the Wings gear and wear it with pride.
I think they have a great chance of keeping the cup.

Sounds right but I couldn't say for sure.

One time I was out to dinner with the family and the resturaunt had an event going on. I went to check it out and there, bigger than life was Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and Derick Sanderson. I was just 9 years old and just remember how big they were when I shook there hands. That was in summer of 1972 just after the cup win. I wish I still had those 4 Bobby Orr rookie cards .

labworm, Are you in or from the Boston area?

So like yourself, I watched the same Bruin teams and players.
Only cost me $1.00 to sit watch from the Heavens with the Gallery Gods. Talk about fun, didn't get any better.

I grew up in East Boston. Lived on Falcon Street and then we moved to Meridian Street. We used to just hop on the "T" and get off right at the old Garden. It's been years and I was only a kid. We moved away when Boston Naval Shipyard closed (1974?).

It was nice back in the day. You could walk the streets at night. We had one of those "Italian soccer clubs" a few doors down. It's funny how all the "soccer players" wore 3 piece suits and drove black Caddys.

If I understand correctly, that sounds like the nosebleed section at the Shark Tank. Sure costs more than a buck for a ticket there now, though.

As it happens, we had tickets for a Patsy Cline retrospective tonight; we got the tickets before I thought to pay attention to when the playoffs started. So I'll miss much of the Sharks-Ducks fighting-and-hockey match. With luck, we'll be back home in time for at least some of the game. And I'm not kidding about the fighting part. Last time the two met in the regular season, a melee broke out late in the third period that generated a total 64 penalty minutes!

Best of luck to all teams and their fans on the Forum, but I hope (and believe) the sharks will be there at the end, Stanley Cup in hand.

Great thread!

The last regular season Bruins/Canadians game was like that. It was one of the best games I had seen in quite a while. If the whole series is like that the winner is going to be hurting for the next series. I'm glad the Bruins have some tuff young kids that can hit hard and bounce back. Lucic is sure fun to watch. He is like the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps hitting.

Well...the Pens are off and running! We got in a terrible slump, fired the coach and something clicked & the team caught on fire. Will the Pens go all the way???? I believe we have the talent, if they can stay focused. Regardless, whoever we're facing is in for a battle, as the Flyers found out in game 1.

I watched the Penguins last night, really a good game, I was really impressed with their speed.
They also have a very good chance on making the finals. So here we go, the fun begins.

I grew up a Rangers fan, back in the Ed Giacoman/ Brad Park days. But i've lived in Northern California for 16 years..go Sharks! This is the best San Jose team and they should go deep. I'm worried about the stinkin' Wings.....

Just guessing you are from CONN, if so, you must miss the good old Hartford Whalers.

Ranger fans never forget...my mother would still run off with Rod Gilbert if he asked her!

Looks like the Bruins are going to have to earn the first round. They were flat for a good part of the game but did show some real effort when needed. You can never count those darn Canadians out. They have a habbit of finding a way to win when they are backed against the wall as the Bruins have found out many times in the past.

I have not watched many Sharks games and thought there would be more contact. Are they trying to save themselves for the Red Wings? By the looks of it, almost any of the eastern teams could wear them down in a couple of games. Even Big Joe and Blake looked like they were unwilling to put the body into it.

I am kinda wishing for a Bruins vs. Red Wings final, with the Bruins winning of course .

Your definition of good must not be the same as mine. While the Pistons are marginal this year, and the Lions are a joke, I wouldn't count the Tigers out just yet. Even disregarding market size, I can think of a lot of places in the US where "Only" three out of four pro sports teams contending is something residents would be proud of.

I was only able to catch highlights from last night's Sharks/Ducks game, but from the look of it, the Sharks looked flat. Maybe they peaked too early in the season?

Ah, well. One game doesn't make a series.

They did look flat. I expected them to put up some serious offense. The Vancouver golie was in top for though. As a matter of fact both golies were outstanding.

Early I watched the Bruins/Canadians,and a few peeks at the Redwings, then Chicago, and the last Sharks/Ducks. Redwings solid as usual, don't know a great deal about Chicago, but I really was surprised to see the Ducks blank the Sharks, that has got to be a fluke.

The Boston sport announcer's (Cheerleaders) make this statement after the game. The Bruins came out with a win even though they didn't play well. They won 4-2, and it is the Stanley Cup playoffs, I guess if the Bruins played well the score would have been 8-2.

Don't forget I am cheering for the Bruins.

The Bruins didn't play well for most of the game. They were lucky. They had some fits of really good play that carried them.

Well this evening at 7 EST I will be watching Philadelphia at Pittsburgh, watched the first game and really enjoyed the Penguins win.

Then later this evening it's St.Louis and Vancouver, I'm lost for words on this game.

Man, I LOVE the NHL playoffs!

It means the season has, mercifully, come to an end.

Actually, it's the beginning of the real season, the one that counts.

Well...we're off to Philly up 2-0. For those not aware of it, the Pens have lost just about EVERY Sunday game that NBC carried. Time to snap that losing streak!!!!!

The Canes decided to show up last night, and are playing like they were down the stretch.
Cam Ward had another great night, and proves he is one of the best goalies in the game today.
Go Canes!!!

Watched both games, so far a great series even though the Pens are up 2-0.
