I salute all my brothers replying here and wish you well. Feel free to include any interesting or funny experiences while you served. Got to admit, going from civilian life into Basic was a shock...and from Basic to Japan, even more so.
In the end I will say I returned a better person than when I first went in.

In the end I will say I returned a better person than when I first went in.

My parents wanted me to go straight to college right after high school, but I wasn't ready. I would have done a lot better in high school if I had applied myself, but I didn't. So, I enlisted. When I got home after service and started college, I was ready and I took it seriously. As a result, I was on the Dean's Honor List every semester, and graduated with honors...even working full time in the evenings at a local hospital. (The GI Bill paid for my tuition, but didn't pay for my rent and food!) I give full credit to the discipline I learned during my time in service.
