Late yesterday afternoon, I went to go see it at the theater that some young theater worker told me that it wasnt going to be shown at as I was told by him just the week before when I inquired.
Anyway, I bought my ticket-went in and saw I was the only one there-kinda good and bad news I guess? The good news is--I would be there alone and wouldnt be disturbed by those poking their fatempta cellphones on and off-etx. Bad news is--the film wouldnt be making money.
Well, shortly after I got there and situated myself into a great spot-several people in the same party, showed up and sat directly in front of me--munching on stuff in noisy containers-slurping stuff from very noisy containers. I was thinking--"REALLY?" you have an entire EMPTY theater to sit in with a few hundred great seats to sit in-and you pick sitting directly ini front of me. Normally, I dont care where a person sits--but one was wearing a black cowboy hat that he DID NOT REMOVE--and sat RIGHT IN FRONT OF me blcking part of the screen. Had he sat just one more row down--then it woulda been: No Problemo Batman.
Then the loud snacking continued-the burping etx.
The previews started. It turns out that the previews took about 23 MINUTES to play before the movie started!!! During that time (I had quietly moved my position to a better foxhole where I could see the entire screen) and lo and behold--4 more folks arrived snacking slurping and being noisy as hell with their snacks.
The movie started-and the female in that smaller group was freaking out at how some Indians were dressed--with war-paint and such. I cant say more for fear of ruining it for those who aint seen this yes--EXCELLENT Western yet.
Those four behind me--took over an hour to go through their snacks making sure to slurp and shake their popcorn bags as much as humanly possible.....then their talking started. For the first time, I actually turned around and gave them an angry glare--they quieted down for awhile. But--when certain scenes happened-the woman freaked out.
All in all--I still managed to enjoy that well made-very well acted Western inspite of others attempts to ruin it. Im HOPING it will stay at the theater for at least another week, as I want to watch it again-this time without the additional noise that came with it.
One thing I noticed in the credits-is that Terrence Hill was one of the makers of that flm. If one is not familiar with Terrence Hill-he was famed for making certain films doing slap-like-comedy in a Western that had Henry Fonda in it.
I also noticed, that he is busy acting again. He's coming out in a couple new movies. One is a Western-I forget its name? and is directly to DvD-the other-I forget its name-is coming to the big screen.
Anyway, Hostiles--is THE BEST new Western ive seen since The Outlaw Josey Wales--the heck with the one they compared it to.
All I can say is-cant wait to get the DvD and that those fools in hollywierdland--didnt give it any awards nods--are as stooooopid as sticks in mud-cause Wes Studi and of course-the lead star--were excellent. The rest of the cast were as well.
If anyone here likes my judgement of westerns? then you will know this one is a great one. It never started or ended up being slow. It took a few surprising turns but--it all fit in perfectly-like one of Snubby's pieces for his puzzles for his wife.
