Late yesterday afternoon, I went to go see it at the theater that some young theater worker told me that it wasnt going to be shown at as I was told by him just the week before when I inquired.

Anyway, I bought my ticket-went in and saw I was the only one there-kinda good and bad news I guess? The good news is--I would be there alone and wouldnt be disturbed by those poking their fatempta cellphones on and off-etx. Bad news is--the film wouldnt be making money.

Well, shortly after I got there and situated myself into a great spot-several people in the same party, showed up and sat directly in front of me--munching on stuff in noisy containers-slurping stuff from very noisy containers. I was thinking--"REALLY?" you have an entire EMPTY theater to sit in with a few hundred great seats to sit in-and you pick sitting directly ini front of me. Normally, I dont care where a person sits--but one was wearing a black cowboy hat that he DID NOT REMOVE--and sat RIGHT IN FRONT OF me blcking part of the screen. Had he sat just one more row down--then it woulda been: No Problemo Batman.

Then the loud snacking continued-the burping etx.

The previews started. It turns out that the previews took about 23 MINUTES to play before the movie started!!! During that time (I had quietly moved my position to a better foxhole where I could see the entire screen) and lo and behold--4 more folks arrived snacking slurping and being noisy as hell with their snacks. :(

The movie started-and the female in that smaller group was freaking out at how some Indians were dressed--with war-paint and such. I cant say more for fear of ruining it for those who aint seen this yes--EXCELLENT Western yet.

Those four behind me--took over an hour to go through their snacks making sure to slurp and shake their popcorn bags as much as humanly possible.....then their talking started. For the first time, I actually turned around and gave them an angry glare--they quieted down for awhile. But--when certain scenes happened-the woman freaked out.

All in all--I still managed to enjoy that well made-very well acted Western inspite of others attempts to ruin it. Im HOPING it will stay at the theater for at least another week, as I want to watch it again-this time without the additional noise that came with it.

One thing I noticed in the credits-is that Terrence Hill was one of the makers of that flm. If one is not familiar with Terrence Hill-he was famed for making certain films doing slap-like-comedy in a Western that had Henry Fonda in it.

I also noticed, that he is busy acting again. He's coming out in a couple new movies. One is a Western-I forget its name? and is directly to DvD-the other-I forget its name-is coming to the big screen.

Anyway, Hostiles--is THE BEST new Western ive seen since The Outlaw Josey Wales--the heck with the one they compared it to. :D All I can say is-cant wait to get the DvD and that those fools in hollywierdland--didnt give it any awards nods--are as stooooopid as sticks in mud-cause Wes Studi and of course-the lead star--were excellent. The rest of the cast were as well.

If anyone here likes my judgement of westerns? then you will know this one is a great one. It never started or ended up being slow. It took a few surprising turns but--it all fit in perfectly-like one of Snubby's pieces for his puzzles for his wife.

I gotta thank you Carl for TWO things in the above post. First of all for the critique on the movie. I think you and I are pretty close on our taste in movies and especially westerns. If you like it that much It's a cinch that I'll like it at least a little bit.

But also for reminding me why I don't much care to go to the theater any more. The last time I went a guy 3 or 4 seats to my left turned around at one point and snatched a cell phone away from a guy that was sitting right behind him. He then turned around and threw it to the front of the seating area. The guy ran down and found his phone and picked up all the pieces he could find and walked back up to the guy that threw it. Before he could say a word the guy that threw it threw a hard straight right to the mouth and nose of the guy with the phone. Every one in the vicinity of the action cheered.

The guy with the pieces of phone left (after he got up and cleared his head) and the guy that threw the phone (and the straight right) took a bow and sat down and we all finished watching the movie in peace and quiet.

But as I think about it that little bit of gratuitous violence was well worth the price of admission. ;)

"Unforgiven" and "Open Range" get high marks from me.

To me the last best Western I watched was "Unforgiven"

But it is Clint Eastwood afterall. In front and behind the camera.:D

PS. Had a lot of good laughs as a teenager with the "Trinity" movies.(and I have them all in dvd now)

The "draw/fake draw slap in the face" scenes are priceless.:D

Heh heh, great minds think alike.:)The last movie I saw was Dunkirk, and the next one ill see-was made by Clint Eastwood. Its the one where a couple vets stopped a terror attack on a train in Paris. Clint will always get my money.

There were several other new movies previewed--all negative and ill pass them all bye. Clint's was the only one ill give a thumbs up on though. :)

I was thinking of going to an afternoon showing.
Have to admit, you guys have almost convinced me to wait for the online release!

You make a good point Pilgrim. I can understand going to the theater when the alternative was to watch it at home on a cracker box.

But now we have a 55" high def/blueray and surround sound and that ain't too awful shabby. And in this theater, I'M the usher. Any cell phones need throwin' I'll throw 'em myself. ;)

When we go to see the kids in Boca they always take us to the theater where they serve drinks and dinner during the movie. Folks that go there seem to know how to conduct themselves properly. Been several times and not noticed one disturbance.

Id completely forgot that we have one of those new-fangled Alamo Drafthouses that had jest opened here. I shoulda watched it there.

The trinity movies are good and Hill-"MAKES" them good. Im not much of a "pasta" Western fan, but there are exceptions-like Eastwood's-and Hill's pasta Westerns. And yes-IM the one who coined them "Pasta Westerns" cause I cant spell spahghetti SP? correctly-and yes-leonard maltin stole that term from me and uses it in his books on movies. I coined that term about 20 or so years ago. Its like the term: "Powers that be" I coined that one too-on the IMDB forums.

You called it Carl!!! There has NEVER been anyone that has contributed as much on either side of the camera as Clint Eastwood. His creativity and his willingness to try something new and different have resulted in untold hours of entertainment to movie watchers all over the world. Movies from the Spaghetti Westerns to Dirty Hairy to Bridges of Madison County to Honky Tonk Man to Play Misty for me and on and on and on.

He's only been associate with 2 movies that I didn't like. One was Bridges of Madison County but that was because I saw that as a chick flick and I despise Meryl Streep. so that killed it for me

The other one was Bronco Billy. I was in College Station for fire fighting School for my job at Shell and I went to the theater to see it. He actually played a wimp. Made me sick. I left after about 30 minutes. And if I remember correctly the skanky Sondra Locke was in that one. I think she could back a dog off a gut wagon. WHAT A P I G!

Some didn't care for The Beguiled but I like it alright. The man just doesn't accept any limitations.

"Spaghetti movies" made Clint Eastwood.:D
"The Good the Bad and the Ugly", "For a Fistful of Dollars, "For a Few Dollars More". Do I need to say anymore?

Edit.:o Guilty of thread derailing.

To put it back on track. I plan to buy the "Hostiles" dvd as soon as I see it for sale. Lack the patience to go to theaters these days.

Several things. AN extra like since you taught me the correct way to spell spaghetti. Another because, I dont like Bridges of Madison County and streep, dont like sondra locke--whom he TRIED to make into a star but, as ive often said: "You cant make an Eagle out of a Turkey.' And locke aint no Eagle--more like-a Buzzard. :D I didnt care much for Beguiled, but still enjoyed Eastwood in it-and Eastwood didnt make a great yankee anyway. :) As for locke--I disliked her more when she sued Eastwood-I forget what for? and he paid her millions just to get her out of his hair anyway-even though he was not guilty. locke is an ingrate.

Derail--I don't care since it's about Clint-and I do have that trilogy. Also, ill be buying Hostiles as soon as it gets to dvD as well. :D Im also planning seeing it again in theater-if my work schedule allows it? and it BETTER allow it or ill call in "sick" again. I played hooky last Tuesday and ill do so again if necessary? :D BTW--I do have sick time to burn.

Hostiles does interest me, quite a bit in fact. But I kinda loathe theaters; have gotten used to sitting at home (decent tv and very nice sound system) watching movies when I want and without all those sounds that can be bothersome. Not to mention being able to pause if i need a snack or "break" lol.

We did go recently to see Jumanji as Santa got Mrs Claus a gift card and the theater here is a new one with only recliners, etc and it wasn't bad. But the previous time i went? When Avatar came out (i think you get the idea)....

Sounds like Hostiles will be a Bluray purchase when it hits the shelves

A friend of mine and I got into a discussion of Sondra Locke one time He said. "You can put lipstick on a pig and walk her to town but she's still a pig."

I can't account for why a guy that could have his pic of any woman would want to be in the same room as a runny nose, watery red eyes coke snorting skunk ***** hag like her. She hasn't the slightest trace of talent or any other redeeming quality. She can't act. She can't sing. She's a mean spirited greedy no talent wanna be. ANd she is uglier than 10 miles of mud road. Of course now I say all this in the kindest possible way. :D

I guess you could say, I'm just not a fan.

Poor old Clint did every thing he could to help her career but she was just unable to bring anything to the party. You can't make something out of nothing

The oncologist forbids me to go to theaters and other public places where I might pick up any illness from others.

Being on chemo, no immune system here.

I'll wait for cable at my neighbor's.

Clint did much better with the lady he has now. :) My computer battery is about dead, but ill be back tomorrow.

Almost forgot, im surprised that Clint had nothing that I could see-to do with Hostiles. Its Clint--in quality.

Hey Walkin' Jack,

What's your opinion of Frances Fisher, another

Eastwood fling? She was the madam in "Unforgiven."

Well she isn't my favorite but I don't have dreams of gutting her with a rusty beer can opener like I do about the disgusting Sondra Locke. I think the only actress I despise more would be Hanoi Jane but lets NOT get that one going in here. I might just get carried away and get sent to BANNED CAMP. And we've already drifted this thread far enough.

I really don't know anything about her and have never given her much thought.
