Happen to find my old Deano the Dino piggy bank. Sinclair Gas Stations always had some ingenious child marketing gadgets. Reckon Deano wasn't lost or thrown away because he held money. Thinking about cracking him open to see how many wheat pennies he's holding..... then again Deano may be worth more thaythe pennies.

Wonder how many know where Sinclair was from and WHY they had a dinosaur as a logo?

Time to call the Pickers, Its been a long time since Ive seen a Sinclair station, maybe the sixties. Not long ago I found a ESSO key chain with the tiger on it, remember put a tiger in your tank.

We had one of these in our family too. I think my sister considered it hers. I hope she still has it.

I think I used to get coins out of a bank by using a butter knife to flip the coins back out the slot. I'd hate to see a piece of Americana like this broken.

I’ve seen Sinclair stations in Colorado while hunting. It’s no wonder they’ve all but perished away.

Choosing an extinct corporate icon probably isn’t the best strategy. People like cutting edge technology, not relics from the past...

Referring to a corporation as a dinasour means they’re slow moving and not adaptive. It’s not a compliment!

i recall seeing that vinyl blow up dino as a kid although i don't remember the last time i saw one of their stations.

anyone wanting more info on sinclair can go here....

Sinclair Oil Corporation - Wikipedia

Dinosaur Fever - Sinclair's Icon - American Oil & Gas Historical Society

turns out they're involved in more than oil.

I clicked on these links. One of them had a comment mentioning that at one time Sinclair marketed soap in the shape of its dinosaur logo. It's a 50+ year memory but I'm pretty sure I remember their soap, and it was green too.

Green stamps and Deano banks were cutting edge marketing strategies back in the 60's.....'just sayin' friend...

I took a lot of baths with Dino soap when I was a child.
It was free so it was good enough in my parents opinion.

Neat thread, misswired.

Sinclair, Wyoming, population 433, is about 150 miles southeast of me. The refinery still cranks out its products.

When I'm planning a trip through there I leave here so I can pull up to Su Casa restaurant just before 11 a.m. If I'm late, I stand in line outside and wait. They have three counter stools and four tables. Closest you'll get to authentic Mexican food this side of the border.

Dino is alive and well in ol' Wyo.

I also remember "Plaid Stamps" and licked many sheets to fill those books.

The history (and current operation) is pretty fascinating stuff.

Excuse the butchering of the Kings English: "you knowed mama had spent some money when you had several full sheets of plaid' stamps"..... I'm wondering if licking all that glue to stick them in the books didn't cause...:later in life illnesses. Man I remember a lot of licking and sticking those stamps :)

My favorite was the UNION 76 “the spirit of 76 “ stations .They gave out the little rubber balls that went on your radio antenna as soon as we got home guess who had a free rubber ball.
