"Virginian" James Drury candid 1971 Finland interview
I found this interesting seeing "The Virginian" off camera in 1971 talking candidly about American culture and other stuff. He reminds me of my dad and his friends in the early 70s when long sideburns and longer hair were becoming popular with the WW2 generation. Even the attitudes and figure of speech are similar. My big brother caught all the arrows blazing the trail in the late 60s. By the time I was a teenager in the early 70s my parents were much more lenient. "The Virginian" apparently was very popular overseas. They treat James Drury like Paul McCartney.

He used to go to the Tulsa show and I visited with him several times. Seemed to be a nice fellow. Hope he is still doing well @84 according to the internet.

I assume the subtitles are in the Finnish language. Very different. I've taken Spanish, French, German, and Italian. I think it might be time for me to learn the Finnish language.
I think James Drury, the man, is much more interesting than James Drury, the actor.

I like "The Virginian" and James Drury. After "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza" it was the third longest running western on US TV.
That's quite an interview. We have to remember how deeply the country was divided back then, even worse than it is now, but we may be getting there!
He certainly didn't censor his language for the interview! Staying safely away from his "salty" quotes ( ) --
Did you notice how he just threw his cigar out the car window?
In the gun shop, was that a P14 or an M1917 rifle he was inspecting?
Every so often they have a reunion of "The Virginian" cast. Maybe I can make it this year!

Mobbed and assaulted by young women...I hate when that happens.

”The Virginian” didn’t offer much chance for him to stretch. But he played an obnoxious jerk with a sadistic streak really well when given the chance like as the main bad guy in “Ride The High Country”. He was really good in that movie. And in one Gunsmoke spisode. He also had a cameo in the 2000 “The Virginian” where he stole the scene.

He made numerous appearances in shows like "Gunsmoke", "The Rifleman", "Perry Mason", etc.
